DeKalb County School District Budget Update
|
|
From the President's Desk
|
Greetings Hoping all is well with you and your families! I hope you all were online for the discussion on the reopening of schools last evening. The superintendent and Board made the best decision in not opening the schools at this time, we thank them for listening to the parents and staff members.
If you watched the board meeting, you understand we have work to do. There are two options being considered. Neither option is particularly good, however; option 1 is the better of the 2.
Option 1:
- 10% QBE Austerity Reduction (-$54.2 million)
- 15% Reduction of Original FY20 Discretionary Levels
- 142 Instructional Support Specialists reassigned to classrooms ($14 million).
- 75% Central Office Hiring Delay Freeze
- 10 Calendar Reduction Days
- Option 1 includes Additional District Support for RAMP (Resource Allocation Methodology Plan - Title I funded) $10M
- A step in January.
Option 2:
- 10% QBE Austerity Reduction (-$54.2 million)
- 15% Reduction of Original FY20 Discretionary Levels
- 75% Central Office Hiring Delay Freeze
- 10 Calendar Reduction Days
- Option 2 includes Additional District Support for RAMP $10M and 142 ISS Active Employees.
- No Step.
Our concern is the 10 furlough days. No other system in the Metro Atlanta area is giving 10 furlough days to its employees. We have or will receive CARES Act funding. DeKalb must not hold the majority of employee’s hostage for just a few, all of our employees are important and must be treated as such. The district must not seek to divide us. With option 2, this is what they are doing. What the board is doing is unconscionable and a travesty. We must let our voices be heard. I’m asking you contact the superintendent and all of the board members.
In solidarity,
Deborah
