The Graceful Windflower
An excellent late summer to early fall bloomer, Japanese Anemone is also called Windflower since the flowers sway sweetly in the breeze on long stems above the foliage. Attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds and bees, anemones work beautifully in many settings - borders, containers, cottage gardens, massed in woodlands, and as a cut flower. Plant this excellent fall bloomer in part sun to full sun in moist rich well-drained soils. Anemones will naturalize by spreading rhizomes. Deer and rabbit tolerant. Zone 5-8.
We have a number of lovely selections:
‘Honorine Jobert’ - White flower with yellow stamens. 3-4 tall x 1.5-2’ wide. Pictured above.
‘Pretty Lady Julia’ - Rose pink flowers with yellow stamens. 1-1.5 tall x 1.5-2’

‘Lucky Charm’ - Deep medium pink flowers with yellow stamens. In spring, the undersides of the leaves are dark violet. Dark purple stems. 36” tall x 20” wide.
‘Elfin Charm’ - Compact. Long bloomer. Blooms June to October. Pure white blooms with yellow stamens. The undersides of the flower petals are blue violet.  Great in containers or in your garden beds. 10-14” tall x 10-14” wide.

 Playing in the Garden
FROM WILMA:  Fall is in the air - a favorite time of the year for many of us gardeners. The cooler, crisp weather is pleasant for working (playing) in the garden. This morning I harvested green tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and green beans from my small garden. It brought back memories of my grandmother who made “end of the garden” relish/pickles from whatever was still growing in the summer garden.
Some of the comments I have heard this week at the Garden Center are "I love looking around"; "it makes me feel good to be here"; "these pansies are beautiful"; "I just love this time of year"; and "may I take pictures of these flowers?".
Shipments of trees, shrubs, perennials, and many other gorgeous plants are arriving almost daily from our Farm and other growers.  Stop by soon!
Did you miss the workshop initially? Both workshops were very informative so here is a second opportunity to watch!
