Can a TI shop in peace like in the olden days?
One moment he's pointing his phone at you, then he's taking your picture.
Then he becomes threatening and yells at you across the
store that you aren't wearing a mask.
Then he calls the manager because you're not wearing a mask.
The manager is also wielding a phone.
Is he or isn't he phone/camera stalking?

How Can We Make Conference Calls More Effective?

10 Things Likable People Never Do

What you do can make you extremely likable. So can what you choose not to do.

  • Jeff Haden
Some people are incredibly likable because of the things they do. Some people are incredibly charismatic because of the things they do.
And some people are incredibly likable because of the things they don't do.
If you know someone who possesses the following qualities, share this with them—and also tell them how much you appreciate the fact they are in your life.

1. They don’t blame.

2. They don’t control.

3. They don’t try to impress.

4. They don’t cling.

5. They don’t interrupt.

6. They don’t whine.

7. They don’t criticize.

8. They don’t preach.

9. They don’t live in the past.

10. They don’t let fear hold them back.

We're all afraid, of what might or might not happen, of what we can't change, or what we won't be able to do, or how other people might perceive us.
And so do our dreams. Whatever you've been planning, whatever you've imagined, whatever you've dreamed of, get started on it today.
If you want to start a business, take the first step. If you want to change careers, take the first step. If you want to expand or enter a new market or offer new products or services, take the first step.
Put your fears aside and get started. Do something. Do anything.
Otherwise, today is gone. Once tomorrow comes, today is lost forever.
Today is the most precious asset you own—and is the one thing you should truly fear ... wasting.
Psychological Stalking Demands Attention
Many of us work in an endless stream of tasks, emails, notifications, meetings, multitasking in the process, never pausing and never ending. Pursuing more and more every day.
Then the day is over, and you are extremely exhausted, and often have very little to show for it. And you start the next day, ready for a mindless stream of tasks and distractions, again.

The Invisible Power of Choice

When you forget your ability to choose, you become helpless and end up becoming a function of other people’s choices. You practically give others not just the power but the permission to choose for you. Don’t surrounder your power to choose what gets listed on your to-d0 list for the day week or month.
Authors of that era wrote of the psychological effects of living under such a threat (not that it is gone now, but it certainly felt different back then). Some said it rendered life fundamentally meaningless. Why indulge personal hopes or dreams when we, our community, our entire culture could be gone in an instant? Psychiatrist Robert Jay Lifton coined the term “psychic numbing” for the denial we employed, individually and collectively, to allow us to live our lives while faced with the real and ever-present risk that our world might end that very day.
Psychic numbing was curious yet undeniable. We all knew the danger was real. But because the unimaginable horror of World War Three was coupled with an apparent inability to do anything about it, we told ourselves the likelihood was low and somehow pushed it aside. Instead of being the top priority it arguably should have been, nuclear annihilation lurked like an ominous cloud at the periphery of consciousness. We and our comedians made nervous jokes about it. A few idealists joined peace and disarmament groups. Meanwhile, the rest of us watched warily out of the corner of our eye, weighed down by a pervading fatalism and learned helplessness.
The dynamic of psychic numbing is repeating itself today. This time it is not the existential risk of nuclear war, but the reality of losing our privacy. Revelations that our own government monitors our private telephone conversations and tracks our vehicles, allegations that a few years ago would have been waved off as paranoid rantings, are now headline news. We now know that our email is scrutinized for keywords (and possibly collected and stored in its entirety), and our cellphones are used to track our locations. Like the nuclear threat of the 1970s, it feels as if we can’t do anything about it. Our discomfort lurks like an ominous cloud at the periphery of consciousness. We and our comedians make nervous jokes about the NSA. A few idealists join activist groups to oppose the scrutiny of innocent citizens. Meanwhile, the rest of us watch warily out of the corner of our eye, weighed down by a pervading fatalism and learned helplessness.
The theft of privacy has been opportunistic and widespread. The 9/11 terrorist attack justified not only “security theater” at airports, but also a trading away of everyday privacy in the name of national security. Video cameras monitor public areas in major cities; license plates of highway traffic are scanned en masse and recorded by local and state police; the FBI can activate your laptop’s webcam remotely and secretly (with a court order). Meanwhile, quite apart from national security or law enforcement considerations, internet privacy has become an oxymoron. The social web, an aspect of Web 2.0, promoted living one’s life in full view of “friends” and others. Facebook and Twitter distribute micro-doses of fame to monetize the formerly private lives of their users. Younger people post photos of themselves in compromising situations while failing to appreciate the permanence of these images. Older people use online health and mental health support sites, not realizing their “private” conversations are archived and publicly searchable. A great many advertisers and others track web activity for commercial purposes, amassing huge databases without users’ knowledge or consent. Whether on actual highways or the quaintly-named information superhighway, the distinction between public and private is quickly eroding away.
Is privacy passé, a luxury we can no longer afford? Psychic numbing tells us to shrug and bear the new reality. As many thought 30 or 40 years ago about the nuclear arms race, loss of privacy appears to be the price of living in our modern world.
Don’t believe it. The forces that now seek to strip us of individuality and dignity have always been here. New technologies present novel challenges, but human nature hasn’t changed. It took decades to realize we weren’t forced to live with Mutual Assured Destruction hanging over our heads. When we overcome our psychic numbing this time, we will re-discover that nervous humor, wary sidelong glances, and helpless fatalism are not effective ways to deal with a real problem. We will re-discover the value and honor in self-respect.
Part 1 and 2 Wi-Fiber Surveillance Network

How The Feds Will Use Wi-Fiber To Create A National Public Surveillance Network: Part 2
Fiber gives law enforcement access to public and private CCTV cameras, cam-share cameras, public transit cameras, red-light cameras, traffic intersection cameras, highway surveillance cameras, E-ZPass cameras, ShotSpotter cameras (with microphones), smart street lights and license plate readers to track Americans without a warrant. (To see how police turned the “Electronic Monitoring Indigency Fund” into a highway surveillance program, click here.)
Wi-Fiber will allow police and Fusion Centers to tie all of these surveillance devices into one network, giving them the ability to secretly track Americans and vehicles without a warrant. It allows police to create secret red-flag or zone detection zones that record and monitor people, objects or vehicles entering or exiting a zone in real-time.
Antibody Mix Blocks COVID-19

Ultrapotent Antibody Mix Blocks COVID-19 Virus From Entering Cells – Protects Against the Pandemic Coronavirus

By University of Washington Health Sciences/UW Medicine September 25, 2020
A cocktail of powerful antibodies identified in recovered patients locks the coronavirus infection machinery, inhibits SARS-CoV-2 attachment to host cells, and protects animals challenged with the pandemic coronavirus.
A mix of ultrapotent antibodies from recovered COVID-19 patients has been shown to recognize and lock down the infection machinery of the pandemic coronavirus and keep it from entering cells. Each of the antibody types performs these overlapping tasks in a slightly different way.
Low doses of these antibodies, individually or as a cocktail, were also shown to protect hamsters from infection when exposed to the coronavirus by preventing it from replicating in their lungs.
An advantage of such cocktails is that they might also prevent the natural mutant forms of the virus that arose during this pandemic to escape treatment. As some variants in the infection machinery have already been discovered during the coronavirus pandemic, using a mix of antibodies allows for neutralization of a broad spectrum of such viral variants.
In addition to preventing virus entry into host cells, the presence of the antibodies also seems to set off the infection-fighting actions of other immune cells, which arrive to clear out the virus.
“We believe that leveraging multiple, distinct, complementary mechanisms of action could provide additional benefits for clinical applications,” the researchers noted.

These Smart Contact Lenses Deliver AR Tech Straight to Your Eyeballs

Our heads are in our phones already, why not directly on our eyeballs?
Jan 17, 2020, By Courtney Linder
Mojo Vision says it has created the "smallest and densest dynamic display ever made," which includes a 14,000 pixel-per-inch display with eye-tracking, image stabilization, and a custom wireless radio. The display needs all those pixels because it's directly laid onto your eyeball.
A current prototype—shown off at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month—includes a display right at the center of the lens, positioned directly before the pupil. The screen is so tiny that the eye can barely see it. Most of its light is focused on a small portion of the retina at the back of the eye, called the fovea.
This small depression is where our eyesight is sharpest, so it helps to define details of the objects right in front of us. The fovea takes up just about four to five percent of the retina's overall area, but contains most of its nerve endings. So, it makes sense that Mojo wants to shoot a display directly into this portion of the retina. The high number of photoreceptors means the lenses require less power and less light to transmit images.
Can you effect bacteria with frequencies?

Tailoring Bacteria Response by Piezoelectric Stimulation

Bacteria are simple organisms with a remarkable capacity for survival by adapting to different environments, which is a result of their long evolutionary history. Taking into consideration these adapting mechanisms, this work now investigates the effect of electrically active microenvironments on bacteria and on how this stimulation may trigger bacteria growth inhibition or proliferation. Electrical microenvironments are generated via stimulation of a piezoelectric polymer with a mechanical cue, thus developing an electrical response and a variation on the surface charge of the polymeric material. Specifically, Gram-positive Staphylococcus epidermidis and Gram-negative Escherichia coli were grown overnight under static and dynamic conditions on piezoelectric poly(vinylidene) fluoride (PVDF) films to further study bacteria behavior under: (i) the effect of the material surface charge in static conditions, (ii) the mechanical effect, and (iii) the piezoelectric effect, the last two performed under dynamic conditions. Bacteria viability in planktonic and biofilm forms was measured, and the microorganism morphology was characterized. Whereas E. coli responds little to any of the stimuli application, S. epidermidis growth can be regulated through the material surface charge and by the applied frequency. Positively charged PVDF induces bacterial growth inhibition in planktonic and adhered cells in static conditions, whereas antifouling properties are obtained when a mechanical or piezoelectric effect at 4 Hz stimuli is applied. By increasing the stimuli to 40 Hz, however, the adhesion of bacteria is promoted. In conclusion, the behavior of certain bacteria species is tailored through the application of piezoelectric materials, which provide sufficient mechanoelectrical stimuli for growth or inhibition of bacteria, allowing for the design of suitable anti- and promicrobial strategies. Such strategies are only found in studies related to mammalian cells, whereas in bacterial cells this type of stimuli are still unknown. Thus, this work provides one of the first insights on the effect of piezoelectric stimuli on bacterial cells.
Keywords: Gram-negative bacteria; Gram-positive bacteria; antimicrobial; mechanoelectric effect; piezoelectric material; promicrobial; surface charge.
