Fire Prevention Week

State Farm Agents are delivering Fire Prevention Week toolkits to more than 2500 fire departments across the country, including Olean Fire Department & Allegany Volunteer Fire Department. Each toolkit includes resources for Fire Prevention Week (October 4-10, 2020), including brochures, magnets, posters and more. The Fire Departments and SKSTNY will be sharing these resources with schools and communities this month in support of the campaign.

This year's Fire Prevention Week campaign, "Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen" focuses on cooking fire safety. Home cooking fires represent the leading cause of all fires with nearly half - 49 percent - happening in the kitchen. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of these fires.

We are excited for this partnership and for this coming week!
SIDS Awareness Month
October is SIDS Awareness Month. A safe sleep environment can help reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related causes of infant death, like suffocation.

During #SIDSAwarenessMonth, help us promote safe infant sleep. Snap a photo of your baby, grandbaby, niece, or nephew in a safe sleep area and share it with your friends and family with the hashtag #SafeSleepSnap. Remember, babies sleep safest on their backs.

Also, Safe Kids Worldwide hosted a Facebook live called Ask an Expert: Safe Sleep for Your Baby. This was a great virtual event where experts shared safe infant sleep tips, discussed common challenges caregivers face and answered questions on how to create a safe sleep environment.
