CEO Update
EMT-B Academy

I am happy to report that the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation recently notified us that they have chosen to support our Southern Tier EMT-B Academy project. Through this project, we will recruit and train new EMS personnel to help bolster the EMS system in our catchment. To help overcome education barriers, the program will be provided at no cost to students. The students will also receive a stipend during their training that will allow them to concentrate on their training program without also having to work full-time.

Msgr. Gregory Mustaciuolo, Chief Executive Officer of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, stated, “As we set our sights on 2021, we must address the healthcare disparities related to race and income that have only been heightened since the onset of the pandemic. We honor the legacy of Mother Cabrini by funding activities, programs, and initiatives that help bridge gaps in health services, bolster the health outcomes of diverse communities, and eliminate barriers to care.”

Our organization is proud to be selected as a Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Grantee. We are thrilled by this opportunity to improve the health and wellness of our New York Community.
MATTERS Network
Over the past few years, I have collaborated with Dr. Lynch and Dr. Clemency to assist with the expansion of the MATTERS Network in the Southern Tier. MATTERS concept was originally built on the public health model of prevention and treatment to decrease opioid prescribing in UB|MD Emergency Medicine emergency departments. Due to this, guidelines were established for patients and prescribers for appropriate opioid prescribing which led to an aggressive effort to train emergency physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) in responsible opioid prescribing, medication-assisted treatment (buprenorphine primarily), and rapid referrals.

It has been exciting to see this program grow over the years, and I look forward to its continued expansion as MATTERS now seeks opportunities to leverage telemedicine capabilities. This week, I discussed ideas and opportunities with Dr. Clemency, and I am looking forward to seeing how this program continues.
