Skip Laurels & Arborvitae - Hedging Plants!
Skip Laurels & Arborvitae now in stock…so shop our great selection of evergreen hedging plants! Fall is on its way, soon the leaves will fall, and our winter landscapes will prevail.

Evergreens pull the garden together with green during the winter months and provide structure and curb appeal all year long. They allow you to create a secret garden and/or selectively enhance your views. This could be as simple as planting a little hedge that blocks out a neighbor’s parking area and improves the scene from your kitchen window – or something more extensive.

Mix it up! Mixed hedges can create more texture and visual interest than using only one plant type. A few options include Skip Laurels, Green Giant Arborvitae, Emerald Green Arborvitae, Evergreen Magnolias, Arizona Cypress, Hollies, Yew, and Cryptomeria. Evergreen hedges make a beautiful backdrop for flowering trees, shrubs, and perennials.

Around the Garden Center
Heaths & Heathers

New shipment of Heaths & Heathers. More arriving soon!

Heaths & Heathers are loved by pollinators and resistant to deer. Plant in sandy, acidic, well-drained soil and full sun for best flowering.

Heaths (Erica) have needle-like evergreen foliage and most bloom over the winter/early spring. Many Heathers (Calluna) have colorful evergreen foliage, and most bloom from mid-summer to fall.

Annual pruning will keep the plant looking full and robust. Prune heaths immediately after flowering and prune heathers in early spring.

Wintergreen & Uva Ursi

Both Wintergreen & Uva Ursi are native plants that are evergreen groundcovers.

Wintergreen (Gaultheria) thrives in rich moist acidic soil with excellent drainage. Plant in part shade to full shade. The leaves and berries are edible and have been used for the popular wintergreen flavoring in chewing gum.

Uva Ursi, also called Bearberry and Kinnikinnick, is very winter hardy and prefers acidic, well drained sandy/gritty soils and full sun. Do not fertilize. Uva Ursi is also a medicinal herb and has been used in tanning leather because of its high tannin content.

Great Selection!
FROM WILMA:
“Wow. What a great selection for this time of year!” - a first-time shopper said to me a few days ago. She explained that she had just moved here and was not used to garden centers being stocked with fresh plant material in late summer.

Trees and shrubs have arrived from West Coast nurseries as well as local growers including our Farm. The perennial selection is awesome! Lila has created annual displays for late summer color. Some pansies and fall mums are here with more to come. Fall veggie plants are ready too.

Several customers have commented on how well the garden center looks. A special thanks to our staff for “hanging in there” while unloading trucks, making displays, watering thirsty plants, assisting shoppers, and in other ways during this hot weather. Hopefully, cooler weather will be here soon.
