Learn the foundational poses of yoga and how to make modifications with options. We will practice the different “families of asana”: standing poses, forward folds, twists, hip openers, heart openers and inversions and how to connect to our breath throughout. Workshop Description:
A yoga practice can be a healing balm for our bodies, nervous systems, and minds. But depending on how we use our asana (postures) practice, it can also be just another way we punish ourselves. This two-hour workshop with yoga teacher and eating disorders educator Peach Friedman guides you through a physical yoga practice, journaling exercises, and conversations curated to help you untangle your relationship with your body and your image of that body. Perfect in the midst of the holiday season, where traditional messaging around diets becomes rampant! All bodies welcome.
*This workshop does not replace treatment for an eating disorder, nor is it intended to diagnose or treat eating disorders.
About Peach:
Peach Friedman, E-RYT 500, has been studying the system of yoga since 1997 and teaching since 2001. Also recovered from anorexia, Peach is author of the memoir, “Diary of an Exercise Addict,” and has been helping humans better understand their relationships with their bodies for over two decades. She is passionate about detaching diet culture from contemporary yoga culture.

The Kunga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training certification is a transformational program for the yogi and the teacher seeking to integrate mind, body, and spirit through creative, strong, vinyasa flow practices. Students going through the program for personal enrichment will be challenged in a way that is safe, strong, and deeply transformative. Teacher Trainees will learn how to create and offer efficient, and effectively sequenced classes using anatomical principles and vinyasa krama theory. You will also receive a detailed manual with sample class sequences, and content guiding you through the entire process for becoming a strong, effective, and impactful teacher. Training includes mixed levels Power Flow classes, intermediate and advanced postures (with optional modifications), vinyasa methodology and vinyasa krama theory, ayurveda, and teaching techniques for all levels of vinyasa practitioners.

IN THIS TRAINING YOU WILL LEARN:

-How to modify poses for injuries
-How to use asana, pranayama and meditation as therapy

Specifically designed for yoga teachers and serious practitioners of yoga, this teacher training presents the anatomy and function of the major muscles and joints and how they are involved in yoga Asana. Review the anatomical structures of the body and learn how yoga can help to treat and prevent injuries. Work with an experienced physical therapist and learn how to assess and modify an asana practice for injury prevention and treatment. Lecture topics include the physiology of pranayama, core stabilization and how anatomy provides the base of our entire asana practice, as well as specific musculoskeletal issues and injury prevention.

We have been working on various diversity & inclusion initiatives for years, the details of which we will be making much more transparent in our future. The first matter we wish to bring to light is our YTT Diversity Scholarship, which we began raising funds for back in February of this year. We have opened up this fund for our community to donate to at any time, will be offering regularly scheduled donations based classes to raise funds, and will also be providing a full scholarship in our upcoming training to one of our diversity scholarship applicants. Our goal in this effort is to continue to cultivate a more diverse and representative teaching population in our area. Let us know if you are interested in learning more or applying.
