Outcome-Based Quality Improvement Efforts
Yesterday, we were able to host a lunch and learn for local EMS agency leaders and hospital staff to learn more about the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES) program.
CARES is a national program based out of Emory University that seeks to improve the care of patients who suffer out of hospital cardiac arrest by linking prehospital care and hospital outcome data. In 2020, CARES included over 125,000 cases from across the United States. Following a cardiac arrest, participating hospitals and EMS agencies will enter information through the secure quality improvement database. The registry is an excellent way for local EMS agencies and hospitals to help drive outcome-based quality improvement efforts.
I would like to thank Dr. Clemency of UBMD and Susie Burnett, the New York State CARES Coordinator, for their leadership with the initiative. I am excited to see how this process works in our region!
Caregiver Navigation Upcoming Events

Our caregiver navigation program coordinator, Taylor, has been busy planning many events for the caregivers in our catchment. First, we will be hosting an Effective Communication course with the Alzheimer's Association planned for December 8.  Then on December 9, there will be a cookie decorating class as a "mini respite" activity for caregivers and their loved ones.
We are also planning a Matter of Balance course with Ardent Solutions, and I will share more on this once the dates are selected. This is all possible thanks to the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation, Jr. Caregiver Navigation grant.  If you are interested in finding out more about any of these offerings, don't hesitate to contact Taylor at
