Buy a Houseplant - Help a Child Affected by Hurricane Ian
|
Reems Creek Nursery will be sponsoring a fundraiser to help children that were devastated by Hurricane Ian in Florida.
Details: Reems Creek Nursery will be donating 10% of all houseplant sales from Fri. Oct 7 through Thurs, Oct. 20 to the non-profit AgAngels. On top of that, Reems Creek Nursery will match the amount raised for up to $1000. AgAngels serves the Peace River Basin community near Fort Myers by distributing the money they raise to local school teachers who use the funds to help the children in need in their classrooms. Following Hurricane Ian’s devastation of the area, AgAngels will distribute all hurricane relief donations they receive before Nov. 1st to school teachers to help school children and youth in need in the Peace River Basin. Many families have lost everything. We’ve all been shocked by the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Ian. Let’s be pro-active. Every houseplant you buy before Oct. 20 will help out these kids.
Your contribution matters and will be greatly appreciated!
Hurricanes can leave folks without shelter, clean water, and electricity for weeks, even months.

We Still Have Fall Garden Veggies
Get them in the ground!
We also have fiberglass rods and floating row cover for inexpensively creating winter low tunnels.
Perennial Mums
'Ryan's Pink' is blooming and 'Single Apricot' is budding right now! We love these daisy-like perennial mums...they bring big color to the fall garden, they spread nicely, pollinators LOVE them, and they excel as cut flowers. We grow these on our farm and we still have a good supply, but we do have a limited number.

Favorite Weeding Tool!
These Hori Hori knives are super strong, super sharp, and extremely useful for weeding. In fact, Hori Hori knives are one of our staffs' favorite gardening tools!
Great for getting to the bottom of taproots, this hori hori is multi-purpose and can he used for many tasks. It is also a measuring device, a bottle opener, has two cutting edges, and the metal base may be used for light hammering. The waxed heavy-duty sheath has a belt clip so you won't lose your favorite tool.

FROM WILMA: As I was growing up and overhearing my elders discussing the weather I usually tuned them out unless it involved a “school snow day”. As an older teenager I had a job at an air conditioning and heating business where I learned some of the effects of weather. After becoming involved in the horticulture field I came to realize that weather is a major factor!
The month of October probably brings more noticeable changes to the landscape due to weather than any other. October temperatures have been recorded ranging from 20 degrees to 91 degrees (National Weather Service records for Asheville 1869-2021). The first frost of the fall season usually occurs in October, and there have been small amounts of snow in late October.
All in all, much of October weather is almost perfect with crisp, sunny days and brilliant blue skies. It is one of my favorite times to be in the garden – planting, transplanting, collecting seeds, observing pollinators, planning, and daydreaming.
That Blue Sky!

Fun with Miss Cristi Bloch
At Reems Creek Nursery
Sat, Oct. 15

Miss Cristi loves crafting with kids! Join us for this fun fall activity.

Miss Cristi will start off by reading a short seasonal story to the kids and then dissecting a pumpkin to take a look at what’s on the inside.
