Dear Alki UCC,
Last Sunday in worship we heard the story of Jesus walking by the Sea of Galilee, calling to those who would become his disciples, to leave their fishnets and follow him (sermon linked here at 04:23). From creation to flood waters to the Red Sea rolled back, God’s people have been and continue to be people of water. Water baptism is an outward and visible sign of the grace of God.
According to the UCC Book of Worship: “Baptism with water and the Holy Spirit is the sign and seal of our common discipleship. Through baptism, Christians are brought into union with Christ, with each other and with the church of every time and place.”
People of all ages, from infants to older adults are baptized in the United Church of Christ. We recognize the validity of all baptisms, and so there is no need for re-baptism. We do celebrate the powerful ritual, Renewal of Baptism, which is an invitation for all of us who have been baptized to be blessed in the remembering of our baptism.
This Sunday morning, following an adult baptism and the reception of new members, those who choose will be invited forward to receive the sign of the cross marked on their foreheads with water. The words you will hear are: “Remember your baptism and be thankful.”
All you need to do is receive. To let the words echo down into your soul. If you have not been baptized, you are invited to come forward for a blessing.
May we be nourished and refreshed in water and the Holy Spirit.
In hope,
Pastor Emily

Mission to De-Clutter: Major Cleanup Scheduled for End of January
|
Yoicks!!! During the building closure over the last two years, piles of "stuff" (to use the technical term) grew to critical mass on the Anderson Hall stage (see picture at right) and other areas.
We'll be doing donation/dump runs to clear the clutter at the end of the month, so please speak up asap if you know of specific items that need to find another home in the building.
The Lost and Found Bin, in the corner by the pew opposite the church office, also needs a major re-fresh, so please take a look before it's cleared out as well.
