Craving ultra-fresh greens?
Itching to get your fingers in the dirt?
It’s time to grow some sprouts and plant some microgreens. These fresh mini-greens are easy to grow, delicious to eat, and FULL of vitality that you taste in every bite.
SPROUTS: Sprouts are a quick and easy source of fresh green food. Pile them on sandwiches, add them to salads, or eat them straight from the jar. Very little is required to grow sprouts – just water, a jar, and a sprouting jar lid. The lids and Sprout Houses are available in our Garden Shop – along with a tasty selection of sprouting seeds including Alfalfa, Ancient Eastern Blend, Mung Beans, and Sandwich Mix.
MICROGREENS: Microgreens are planted in a shallow tray and harvested when very young – larger than a sprout but smaller than standard greens mixes. They are absolutely packed with nutrients. Shop our microgreens seeds for Pea Shoots, Micro Mix, Green Chard, Basil, Superfoods, Cilantro, Must-Have-Mustards, Arugula, Upland Cress, Mellow Blend, and Sunflower. We have sturdy shallow microgreens trays (with and without drainage holes), humidity domes, and soil. The shallow trays use much less soil - which is extremely useful since the soil that is used to grow microgreens should only be used once.

Have You Heard of Alpenglow?
|
FROM WILMA: Alpenglow is a golden/reddish glow seen near sunsets or sunrises on summits of mountains. This past week there have been a couple of alpenglow sunsets on nearby mountains that were breathtaking. Outlines of mountains, silhouettes of bare trees, and occasional alpenglow make for striking beauty at this time in winter.
Weaverville is a “walkable” town whether through neighborhoods, around Lake Louise, or Main Street Nature Park. These - along with our own gardens and landscapes - are great places to observe the beauty of nature. I especially like to see the remains of last season’s bird, squirrel, and hornet nests.
If the weather is too unfriendly to be outside, we can enjoy nature inside. On a cold, windy, snowy day earlier this week I got my “nature fix” by tending houseplants. Terrariums are an inside gardening activity that can be fun in winter. Stop by the Garden Shop for plants and supplies, and make plans to attend Marie’s Terrarium Workshop on February 11th.
