Did you ever have a favorite tree as a child? Whether you sat under the canopy or climbed the branches, I hope you had a favorite! Trees have much to offer - not only to humans and our landscapes - but even more so to insects, birds and other wildlife that support our ecosystem.
However, some trees have much more to offer than others...read more and register here.

Ramblings On Reems Creek & Beech
|
FROM WILMA: Occasionally we are asked why the Garden Center is named “Reems Creek” when it is located in Weaverville. There are also other questions about the Reems Creek area. The headwaters of Reems Creek begin in the upper part of Beech Community and the creek flows down the valley, by Lake Louise, and on to the French Broad River. Woodfin Water System has a reservoir near the headwaters. At one time there were two thriving apple orchards nearby. Camp Sequoyah was an exclusive boy’s camp located near the creek (Bill worked there and that I where I met him).
Reems Creek Nursery was begun by Bill and me in our front yard in the Beech Community within sight of Reems Creek. In 1985 we opened the Garden Center in Weaverville and kept the name. We grow many of our plants for the Garden Center at our Farm Greenhouses near where I grew up in Beech. Bill and I and other family members live close by.
Beech Community is named for the many beech trees that grow in the area. Before public schools were available there was a boarding school in Beech. The first commencement celebration (1884) for the school was a community event held on July 4th. After the school was no longer in existence Beech Community continued the July 4th celebration. This year was the 139th celebration. As part of the school commencement a bouquet of wildflowers was presented to someone in the community and it became a tradition and is still part of Beech Community’s celebration. This year I had the honor of creating the wildflower bouquet and Brenda Hardy was the recipient.
Reems Creek Valley is a beautiful area and the drive from Weaverville can be breathtaking. Take the drive sometime (just be careful as there can be lots of traffic on Reems Creek Road). When you come to Beech Community take Blackberry Inn Road
and travel “up the creek” and enjoy its beauty.
