Temperatures are going to be fairly mild for the next week - which is great for gardening! It's months until frost - so we have plenty of time to enjoy our outdoor spaces and gardens. Make them pretty!

Scroll down here to see our various plant inventory lists.
We're grateful for the rain on Thursday and ready to get outside! It's a great time to deadhead your annuals and perennials to extend your bloom season - echinacea, black-eyed Susan, and daisies are favorite perennial rebloomers to deadhead (deadheading means removing the spent flowers from the plant). Many annuals will bloom until frost when you keep them deadheaded!
Mexican Sunflower/Tithonia: Every year when the Mexican sunflower starts to bloom and the butterflies flock around it - we have customers wanting to plant some. Guess what? We DO have a few Mexican Sunflower plants available this year. They are just $3.99 each and a super butterfly attractor!
Garden Hints:
- August is a great time to catch up on garden maintenance and get ready for the fall season.
- Weeding is easiest after a rain. Weed now and then mulch to prevent more weeds from coming up.
- Refrain from pruning shrubs after August 1st.
- Wait until the last week of August to seed, re-seed, or fertilize grass.
- Start planning and planting your fall veggie garden.
- Continue to water newly planted trees, shrubs, and flowers.

FROM WILMA: Usually by this time in August we are enjoying homegrown tomatoes. This year some of us are lamenting that our tomatoes are not ripening. Lycopene and carotene (two pigments for ripe color) shut down when temperatures are above 85 degrees but will resume when temperatures go down. Hopefully, temperatures will soon be favorable!
Some have had a bumper crop of squash this season. I have seen “please take” displays of them at several places including our own office and at church. Bill and I have indulged in fried squash a couple of times this summer. It may be time for “fried green tomatoes”.
Hanging baskets, container gardens, annuals, and some perennials can be a little tired. Rejuvenate them by deadheading, trimming back, and fertilizing. Hanging baskets and container gardens especially may need extra watering during these hot days.
Remember Blooming Bucks continues throughout August!
