Seeking the Spiritual Teacher Rev. Michael J S Carter
There have been times in my life when I needed to seek the listening ear. I needed to talk to a professional in order to get some insights into my life and how I was choosing to live it. I am an enthusiastic proponent of getting the wise counsel of a friend or a professional to gain some insight and wisdom. Let's excavate what this may look like when seeking a spiritual teacher. See you on Sunday!
Music: Gathering: "Mazurka in G Minor" (Chopin); Hymns: # 39 Bring O Morn Thy Music, # 347 Gather the Spirit, # 151 I Wish I Knew How; Postlude: "Gymnopedie #1" (Satie) Piano: Linda Metzner
Greeters: Ray Bockhorst

Susan will lead us in making 8 principal bracelets (or pins) for back to school and we’ll watch the story “The Day You Begin” and talk about empathy and looking for ways to welcome any new students at school this year.

Compassion for the Cries of the World Rev. Michael J S Carter
Wherever we go, wherever we wake, we are challenged to hear the cries of the world very personally. The cries are unending and overwhelming, and our noble charge to hear them - to hold them and to keep them alive—is how we keep the life force, the eros energy that we need, kindled between us. As Black Elk was once quoted as saying, the reason to lament is that it helps us to realize our oneness with all things, and to know that all things are our relatives. Let's talk about how we can still keep our sanity and our compassion with our world in turmoil.

Finding Your Seat on Sunday
Be aware that when the air conditioner is running, the Sanctuary is generally cooler towards the front of the Sanctuary and warmer towards the back of the Sanctuary. I’m guessing this will be the reverse in the winter when the heat is running. Please choose your seat and/or clothing with this in mind.

The Fifth Annual UUCSV Auction!
It’s that time again—time to be creative thinkers about what wonderful ideas you have for auction donations.
We UUs are so blessed with stuff—sometimes too much stuff—and often we would rather generously give some of it away as auction donations. And that’s wonderful, because everything that sells provides funds for our congregational needs and for Bounty & Soul, the nonprofit we have designated as this year’s recipient of 30% of the proceeds.
We especially welcome intangible gifts, such as parties, dinners, services, and vacation stays . . . these are some of our most popular items every year. These make the auction “the gift that keeps on giving!”
In the coming weeks Auction Committee volunteers—Jonathan Braden, Susan Moore, and Dana Smith—will start reaching out to you to find out what you would like to give, so if you haven’t started thinking about the auction yet . . . the time is now!
