| When I first drank that brown, bitter liquid deep in the Amazon with the Shuar people in 1997, I knew nothing about it. I had never even heard the word Ayahuasca, or “Natem”, as the Shuar call it. I entered with humility and fear, guided by their elders. Times have changed. Dramatically.
