Last week got a little crazy, what with all the poo-flinging going on because of the Fox News Mass Effect segment. This week everyone calmed down and got their wits about them. Sure the beginning of the week had some mention of it. Hell, even Jack Thompson chimed in. I nearly had a heart attack when I found out what he said. All-in-all though things really got back to normal and we were allowed to focus on, y'know, games.

Things have been really hectic around the GN metaverse lately as we gear up to put Gamernode 6.0 into action. The site update is set to include a lot of things we're all really excited about. Sure it'll make it easier and more fun for the staff in a number of ways, but the important thing is that it will allow for an easier streamlined experience for you guys.

We're also coming out with some new features around the site. One section Editor-in-Chief Brendon came up with is a new section called "Off the Front Page." You'll be seeing that every weekend. The new post will highlight some of the best/most interesting/funniest news stories of the week, along with notable features and staff blog posts. There may even be a couple forum threads thrown in there if we think more readers should know about it.

Anyways, we hope you enjoy the first edition of the Gamernode newsletter.

See you on the forums,

GTA IV to be released on April 29th
Rockstar made yet another announcement releasing info on the official release date for Grand Theft Auto IV. Can we trust them this time, or will the PS3 cause more problems in the release of this gigantic free-roaming world.

EA challenges FOX on Mass Effect inaccuracies
The Fox News network really dropped a ball in their quality, knowledgeable news program (or massive lack there-of) when they outright labeled Bioware's Mass Effect as a game that features full frontal nudity and graphic sex scenes. In a "we don't take crap from no one" attitude, EA challenged FOX to rebuke their statements. Fans of the game didn't like what they had to say either, so they began the
sabotage.

Call of Duty 4 sells over 7 million copies worldwide
Over 7 million copies sold and crowned "#1 best selling video game of 2007" by the NPD made those guys over at Activision pretty happy. Receiving high ratings from many major gaming sites, FPS fans proved that CoD4 would be at the top of their list for the best multiplayer experience for a long time.

Fling things around in SW: The Force Unleashed
Ok Star Wars fans, here is your chance to really use your imagination. Remember when you once thought to yourself "you know what would be awesome, flinging a stormtrooper straight into a rancors mouth?" Well now you can, and you'll look good doing it.

Square's promise: FFXIII to be released in 2008
They promise us one day, and deny it the next. Why is Square-Enix playing with our hearts? Well, at least we'll be seeing a demo coming out this year. Sometime

Ex Naughty Dog employees form new studio
Another bunch of ex-employees of a gaming company are deciding to form a new studio in hopes of pursuing a dream imagination. Ok maybe it's not that deep, but from the people who brought you Crash Bandicoot and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, you know their games will only get better. But are they switching sides away from Sony?

Jack Thompson says Mass Effect is ok. Really
Jack Thompson backing up a videogame? Did Hell freeze over? Even though his respect has been beaten to a pulp by none other than himself, it was a surprise when we heard this bit of news.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl shortages are real
Nintendo can't get their priorities straightened it seems. First they can't supply their crazy mad fans with Nintendo Wiis, now another nightmare is haunting them. Not enough supplies of Super Smash Bros Brawl to go around? That is scary.

Crytek to unveil console version of CryEngine 2
Will a neat demonstration of the CryEngine 2 on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 bring hope that one day we might find ourselves playing Crysis on these consoles? All I can think of is how sweet it would look on my 50' HDTV.

Free console TF2 maps and more Portal!
Isn't Steam nice? They are going to give console players who own Team Fortress 2 two new maps completely free! Still no word if they will be getting the sweet new update for free like the PC players will. And who wasn't expecting more Portal?

Sony drops 80 GB PS3 from production?
Lots of speculation has been coming up on why Sony is ending the production of the 80 GB PS3 model. Low sales, or is there an even bigger model coming out in the future?
