Steve�Big Daddy� McMurry, founding member of
Acoustic Syndicate, is from Western NC. He worked as front man and
guitarist for Acoustic Syndicate for its duration. His songwriting, big
voice and fluid guitar style are his defining characteristics. Often asked
to sit in with well known bands and musicians, he has performed on stage
with such legends as Neil Young, Dave Matthews, Willie Nelson, Little
Feat, Sam Bush, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Darrell Scott, and Gillian
Welch.
�Big Blue�
is McMurry�s latest project. While not exactly retro, the music of this
quintet is reminiscent of the best music from the 1970�s. The time
honored tones of slide guitar, electric piano, driving bass, real drums,
tight vocals and a funky groove, congregate to form a nostalgic blend of
honest music. Their repertoire is mostly comprised of Steve McMurry�s
original material. To add flavor, a few cool tunes by some of the heroes
of this band have been rescued from obscurity. This super tight ensemble
features some of the best talents now residing in Asheville, NC, with a
most interesting and diverse lineup of characters.
