REPRESENTATIVE JERGUSON COMMENDS GOVERNOR PERDUE ON SUSPENSION OF IMPENDING GAS TAX HIKE

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Representative Sean Jerguson today announced his support for the signing of an executive order by Governor Sonny Perdue suspending a scheduled increase in gas taxes that would have taken effect on July 1.

Representative Jerguson, along with other legislators, worked tirelessly during the session to halt the increases on motor fuel taxes in Georgia.  He continued to voice his concern to Governor Perdue throughout the year as gas prices continued to rise and Georgians continued to suffer at the pump.

Representative Jerguson said, “We need to fully fund transportation before considering any increase in our motor fuel taxes. During the 2008 session, the legislature reiterated to the governor and his staff the importance of suspending any tax increases on gasoline.  I am glad that the governor agreed with this position today by suspending the impending tax increase on motor fuel.”
