Press Review by Colorado Music Buzz in Denver, Colorado

Music Independence Summit Conference brings knowledge, enthusiasm to Denver music scene Story by James E. Jacoby user@example.com Colorado Music Buzz Magazine, January 2007 (Vol. 1, Issue 8) On December 12th, Denver played host to the first ever Music Independence Summit Conference to be held outside of New York. Independent musicians, producers, managers, and others in the industry gathered together at Jaz z@ Jack's to take part in this do-it-yourself symposium and network with other professionals, the climax of which was an outstanding performance by the Boulder-based modern Funk band 8traC. Many key issues were discussed, and the topics covered were diverse: copyrights, licensing, and marketing; the importance of and avenues for researching information; building strong connections; how to promote your music, book gigs, and get airplay; and, in particular, how emerging technologies and Internet savvy have helped level the playing field for independent artists. The audience was invited to stand up and participate ? and many did so by asking questions or clarifying certain statements by elaborating on their own experiences in the music industry. Afterwards, there was plenty of time for everyone to mingle, exchange CDs and contact info, and snag some precious one-on-one time picking the panelists? brains.
