Message from the CEO

I take a great pleasure in sending you this e-newsletter. Good communications whether they are among family members, friends, business associates, or nations always help to broaden our knowledge and resources. As AYUDA enters the New Year we have many goals that we hope to accomplish. AYUDA has said goodbye to a few old faces and welcome some fresh ones as well. We know this year will be even more productive and beneficial to all the people we serve in our community.

AYUDAs First Big Toy Drive

This year AYUDA had a very successful toy drive. We were able to give toys to over 600 children. AYUDA received donations of toys from many generous donors. This toy drive took place between December 1st and December 18th. AYUDA was able to give toys to all the children who attend Happy Children of Overtown, Kids Paradise, Kiddie Ranch, Discovery Years, Happy Kids Learning Center, and Edison Private schools. Toys were also donated to two low income churches in Deerfield Beach and Vero Beach. The children were beyond delighted to receive these gifts. For most of the children, these may have been the only gifts they might have received this past holiday season. This toy drive could not have been a success without the generosity of individuals, such as you, as well as UNITED WAY and ST. JOHNS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH.

All donations (clothing, toys, non perishable foods, strollers, etc.) we receive are distributed among the low income families in the community. If you are interested in making a donation, please feel free to contact our offices at (305)864-6885. Since AYUDA is a non-profit organization any donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Ayudas Supporters make Christmas Extra Special

Two of Ayudas supporters made this past Christmas a wonderful one for a special family. In response to the Toy drive email blast, two very warm hearted individuals contacted AYUDAs office interested in sponsoring a family for Christmas. AYUDA contacted them with a single mother of two who had recently arrived to the United States. The two individuals, the mother, and an AYUDA representative went Christmas shopping. These generous individuals bought many presents for the two children and their mother. The family also received a Gift Certificate to buy Christmas dinner. The mother was very grateful and said that if it had not been for these two individuals, her children would not have received anything for Christmas. Their names will not be shared due to confidentiality reasons.

Angel Campaign

You Too Can Be Angel is the official slogan for the 2008 Angel Campaign. AYUDAs Angel Campaign has officially been launched. The Angel Campaign is a donation drive designed for local Miami-Dade Business Owners. AYUDA is offering special advertising thank you gifts to the businesses that make a monetary donation to our agency. The gifts include advertising on bus stop benches, on the side of city buses, etc. If you are interested in knowing more about this campaign please contact Mr. Luis De Jesus, President/CEO, at (305)864-6885.

AYUDA reaches out to the Community

For 30 years AYUDA has been helping citizens of Miami-Dade,Miami Beach, Hialeah, and Overtown - parents, children, youth, and families that are underserved and disadvantaged. Now AYUDA needs help. AYUDAs funding has been cut to such an extent that we need to reach out to the community to raise $100,000 in order to be able to provide our services to support and respond to community needs. AYUDAs services help prevent domestic violence, child abuse, and many other maladies that affect our community by developing and administering programs that promote psychological, educational, and rehabilitative well being of the members of the community. Since AYUDA is an established provider of culturally competent services to the community, funding needs to be in place for the agency to help first time misdemeanor offenders 12-18 years of age, teach self-esteem enhancement skills and positive conflict resolution, enhance participants communication skills, and provide parenting skills, counseling and tutoring services and ESOL classes for at-risk high school students, among other life strengthening skills. Your donation, big or small, will help us reach our goal. We are counting on you for your help. Please help us help others.
