Episcopal Forum Luncheon Meeting - Thursday, 11/30/06

In This Issue:

Diocese of SC Survey Released in some churches

"The purpose of the CONGREGATION'S VOICETM survey is to provide our bishop, key diocesan staff members and clergy with comprehensive and up-to-date information regarding church members' real needs, perceptions, attitudes, institutional climate, overall satisfaction, and recommendations to maximize the member/worship experience within your church and the Diocese of South Carolina:"

(EFSC note: This eNewsletter highlights those questions from the survey which are key to the threatened schism by members of the ACN "Network" After reviewing these go to the link below to complete the survey. This survey is very similar to the survey used in the bishop election process.)

The BIG ISSUES which are driving the ACN "Network" to rebuke and leave The Episcopal Church because it is deemed heretical

(EFSC note: The Episcopal Church embraces a wide range of understandings on most of these issues. The ACN "Network" believes it must rebuke and separate from those who differ with their particular understanding of the TRUTH about most of these issues as stated in their Theological Confession of Faith. See link below)

"Please indicate the extent to which you agree with the following:

Faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation
(reconciliation with God).

Jesus Christ was born of a virgin through the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead in bodily form.

Scripture is God's coherent revelation to us of Himself, of our
nature, and of His plan and purpose for human life and for
salvation.

We have learned much since Scripture was written, such that
some of what it purports to teach must be modified or
rejected.

The only context established and approved by God for sexual
relationship is between a man and woman in a committed
marriage.

The Bible should be read and interpreted literally.

Gender is not an issue for me in terms of ordination to the
priesthood.

Being divorced and remarried should preclude one from being
a bishop.

A bishop should obey his conscience rather than the dictates
of the Church.

Human life begins at conception and should not be aborted
unless the pregnancy has put the life of the mother in
imminent physical danger.

Human life begins at conception and should not be aborted
for any reason.

The most important task of the churches in this diocese is to
reach the lost with the life-saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I believe that the theology and doctrine expressed in The
Articles of Religion (Book of Common Prayer, pp. 867-876)
rightly describe classical Anglican thought.

The Bible is the source of all Episcopal doctrine.

I endorse the Catechism statements that we recognize truths to be taught by the Holy Spirit when they are in accord with the Scriptures.

How do you like The Episcopal Church?

"Please indicate the extent to which you agree with the following statements regarding the Episcopal Church in general:"

I'm proud of our progressive changes.

I'm embarrassed to say I'm an Episcopalian.

I endorse and support the national church.

The primary reason for the current troubles in the Episcopal Church USA is homosexuality.

The primary reason for the current troubles in the Episcopal Church USA is a lack of agreement on the authority of Scripture.

It's not about sex; it's about fundamental doctrine and the faith.

It's simply politics, not religion.

I support the blessing of same-sex unions.

The issue in the Episcopal Church USA today with regard to homosexual conduct is an issue of civil rights.

I support the Episcopal Church USA 's position on homosexuality and civil rights.

The issue in the Episcopal Church USA today with regard to homosexual conduct is an issue of personal freedom versus outdated sexual taboos and phobias.

I support the Episcopal Church USA 's position on homosexuality and personal freedom.

Homosexuality is an issue of the authority of Scripture.

There are even greater divisions of belief within the Episcopal Church USA that dwarf the homosexuality issue.

I don't believe women should be ordained as priests or bishops.

I believe being in the Anglican Communion is extremely important.

Although I am reluctant to see a split in the Episcopal Church USA, I believe it will clarify the situation to everyone's benefit.

Frankly, the potential split in the Episcopal Church USA confuses me.

This issue makes me think I am both conservative and liberal.

If there is a split in the church, I am sticking with the Episcopal Church USA.

I want to remain an Episcopalian.
