Dubious Allies in the Quest for Consents

Ambiguous statements and controversial writings by Bishop-Elect Lawrence are only partly to blame for the possible fiasco now facing the Diocese of South Carolina.

The bad behavior of his key allies since his September election has been a significant distraction, and perhaps fatally undermined his chances of securing the consents of a majority of US bishops and standing committees.

Rather than calling attention to the strength of his candidacy or just laying low, his supporters have gone out of their way to attack the Episcopal Church, advance an agenda of schism, and slam the increasingly popular Presiding Bishop during these critical months.
