This ancient discipline combines mental concentration, breathing technique, and body movements to activate and cultivate our vital energy as it flows through the channels of the body. We are born with the vital and intelligent energy of Qi.

ARTICLE...BE YOUR OWN PRACTITIONER

Be Your Own Practitioner

We do not need a holistic treatment (massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, etc) or teacher to help our bodies and selves feel better. We can do it ourselves! Here are two simple self-care practices that will help you relax and recharge.
I. Abdominal Balancing:
This helps relax and energize the abdominal muscles, abdominal organs and the digestive system.
*Lie on on your back with your knees up.
*Gently and slowly wiggle, roll, and breathe your spine into length and relaxation. Make sure you relax your throat and lengthen your neck.Your fingers will gently press into 5 points along the midline of abdomen from the top to bottom
*Start with the top point in the solar plexus a little below the bottom of the sternum (breastbone).
*The backs of your 2 sets of 4 fingernails will be touching as you gentle put some pressure with these 8 finger into this point. Your elbows can be on the ground if possible.
*You want to take 3 full breaths, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. Let your inhalations and exhalations be long, slow, steady, and easy.
*Then move to the #2 point, half way between your solar plexus and your navel.
#3 navel.
#4 half way between navel and pubic bone.
#5 just above pubic bone

*3 full breaths for each point, allowing for a release down toward the back of the abdominal cavity. Focus on the sensations. If you feel the aortic pulse, this is normal. Consider it the heart saying hello to the organs - different and great body systems having a deep meeting!

II. Deep Relaxation (Savasana)
This 10 minute practice has been taken from what is done at the end of many yoga classes to help you integrate the exercises you have done in the class. We can use this practice any time during the day as an another amazing way to relax and recharge.
*Lie on your back a bare floor, a rug, or a towel on the floor.
*Gently and slowly wiggle, roll, and breathe your spine into length and relaxation. Make sure you relax your throat and lengthen your neck.
*Your feet are 2-3 feet apart. Your hand are palms face up 1-2 feet away from the torso.
Set an alarm for 10 minutes.
You will scan your body from the top to the bottom This is important: feel sensation and release the layers of tissue in your body to gravity. 15-30 seconds for each area of the body.

1) Start with your head: scalp, face, forehead, eyes, jaw, mouth (roof, tongue, teeth, gums), throat (back, swallowing muscles), neck
2) Then you chest & arms: Feel your lungs, your heart beating, your ribs, upperback, upper arms, elbows, lower arms, wrist, hands (feel the 27 bones and many joints of each hand!)
3) Mid back, lower ribs/solar plexus, upper belly, low back, lower belly, pelvis, sacrum (back of pelvis), pelvic floor (bottom of pelvis)
4) Hips, upper legs, knees, lower legs, ankles, feet (26 bones in each foot!)
