IBC Party - Thank You!

The Ozark Blues Society of Northwest Arkansas hosted an IBC send-off party and fundraiser at George's Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville last Friday night.

It was a fantastic night of great music (with several special guests), a good turnout (over 175), and very popular Silent Auction items!  The Ozark Blues Society raised over $3000, to send our Blues Challenge winners to the IBC in Memphis next week!

A really big Thank You and Shout Out to all of the musicians that participated, the staff and management at George's, Tom Mowry Photography (great photos... featured in this post), all of the business and individuals that contributed to our silent auction area and, to you, the friends and fans for coming out and supporting our efforts.

Good Luck and Best Wishes! ...  for a successful IBC run in Memphis next week to both Locious Spiller and Brick Fields and the Chosen Ones!

Note:  Ozark Blues Society Board Members attending or volunteering at the IBC do so at their own expense.  Society funds are only used to sponsor our winning acts and help them defray the costs of their trip to Memphis.

Quote

"The blues is like a planet. It's an enormous topic. You can't ignore the impact that it has had and continues to have on the whole musical culture. It's a tree that everyone is swinging from. Without it, I don't know where I would be. It's indelible and indispensable."
Tom Waits
Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio

February 1, the North Arkansas Jazz Society and the Walton Arts Center bring the Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio to the Starr Theater as part of the 2013/2014 Starrlight Jazz Series.

Dr. Lonnie Smith is an unparalleled musician, composer, performer and recording artist.

An authentic master and guru of the Hammond B-3 organ for over five decades, he has been featured on over seventy albums, and has recorded and performed with a virtual “Who’s Who” of the greatest jazz, blues and R&B giants in the industry.

Consequently, he has often been hailed as a “Legend,” a “Living Musical Icon,” and as the most creative jazz organist by a slew of music publications.

Jazz Times magazine describes him as “a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a turban!” Always ahead of the curve, it is no surprise Dr. Smith’s fan-base is truly worldwide.

Since 1969, when Downbeat magazine named him “Top Organist” of that year, Dr. Lonnie Smith has won a plethora of critics’ polls as the world’s premier organist/keyboardist.
