International Blues Challenge  Update
 
 
  • Great acts all week here in Memphis with several people from our Northwest Arkansas Blues community participating, attending and volunteering!
  • The International Blues Challenge is heading into the Semi-finals Round tonight.  Representing Ozark Blues Society of NWA in the Semi-finals round,  Lucious Spiller.  Click here to see who else is moving forward.
  • 2014 Best Self-Produced CD - Final Round The 2014 Best Self-Produced CD competition has entered the final round! The winner will be announced at the International Blues Challenge on January 25, 2014 at Finals in the Orpheum Threatre January 25, 2014. Discs are listed in alphabetical order by affiliate. The 5 discs that advaced to the FINAL ROUND are:
    • Blues Society of Tulsa  - FaceBook Blues by Little Joe McLerran
    • Maine Blues Society -  Keep Jukin by The Blues Prophets
    • Topeka Blues Society - Blues and Trouble by Grand Marquis

2014 Blues in the Natural State Music Festival - Preliminary Details Announced
 

 
The Ozark Blues Society of Northwest Arkansas is pleased to announce some preliminary details on the 12th Annual Blues in the Natural State Music Festival!
 
The Dates:  The Festival will take place in Fayetteville on April 3 - 5, 2014.
 
Headlining:
  • Tab Benoit 
  • Royal Southern Brotherhood (featuring Devon Allman, Cyril Neville and Mike Zito)
  • Samantha Fish
  • The Cate Brothers
Also on the bill with, more acts to follow are:
  • Brick Fields and the Chosen Ones
  • Lucious Spiller
  • Earl & Them
  • Steve Pryor
  • Isayah's Allstars
The festival will begin with a free event co-produced with the Fayetteville Visitors Bureau at the April 3rd First Thursday on Fayetteville Square and will feature Samantha Fish.  
 
On Friday and Saturday, several venues in and around the Dickson Street Entertainment District will be used to showcase blues acts.
 
Advanced ticket sales will begin January 31st and can be obtained on-line through the Ozark Blues Society's website or  purchased at George's Majestic Lounge Box Office.

  • Thursday - Free to the public
  • Friday & Saturday - Advanced Sales  - $20 for each day of the festival

Watermelon Slim and the Workers

 
Subiaco Abbey and Academy will host its 12th annual Blues show on January 29th at 7:45 in the Subiaco Performing Arts Center.
 
 
This year’s group is Watermelon Slim and the Workers. This is the second trip to Subiaco for this group of bluesmen.
 
Subiaco has been host to several great blues artists over the past few years including Blind Mississippi Morris, Brad Web, Oreo Blue, Michael Burks, Mark Sallings and the Famous Unknowns, and Trampled Under Foot.
 
Roy Goetz, director of the Subiaco Jazz Ensemble commented, “I have heard Slim and the Workers several times and they are one of the very best live blues shows out there.”
 
The show is free and the public is invited.
