Blues News You Can Use!
 Supporting Great Animals
Still feeling the brain mush of trying to follow the ever changing weather predictions but I knew I couldn't let another week go with no news for those of you who hang in there with me.  The biggest thing on the radar is that the Eureka Springs Blues Weekend is just two weeks away.  I am sure like me you all followed the horrific news of the loss of a great animal at the Cincinnati Zoo this past week. I am not going to start a conversation about the sad situation that occurred there other than to say that back in the 1990's our family lived in SW Ohio and had season passes to the Cincy Zoo. I regularly hauled my group of young kiddos there for visits so I intimately know the challenges it takes to make such a visit safe and educational.
All that aside, Blues Lovers, you have an amazing opportunity to step up and support the amazing animals at Turpentine Creek while you get your blues on....could it be any better than that?
PLEASE consider taking time to drop me
an email. I want this newsletter to
offer you the information you, the reader, finds helpful. Send any
ideas or comments to me anytime at:

2016 Ozark Blues Society Blues Challenge
As the summer kicks off be assured the Ozark Blues Society Board kicks into gear working behind the scenes to start preparing for our annual fall event, the Ozark Blues Society Blues Challenge. With the date locked down for October 19, 2016 at Georges Majestic Lounge, look for an announcement soon more details including how to enter.
Just in case we have any new readers unsure as to the purpose of this event, it is the competition that is used to select the band and solo/duo acts we will send to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge.  Bands and solo/duo acts who desire to compete in Memphis must win in a local competition sponsored by a blues society that is an affiliate of the Blues Foundation. Each affiliated society is allowed to send one band, one solo or duo, and one youth act.

You have to open your mind. I like the ability to express myself in a deep way. It's the closest music to our humanity - it's like a folk music that rises up out of a culture.

Blues means what milk does to a baby. Blues is what the spirit is to the minister. We sing the blues because our hearts have been hurt, our souls have been disturbed.

The blues was like that problem child that you may have had in the family. You was a little bit ashamed to let anybody see him, but you loved him. You just didn't know how other people would take it.

I'm sure I would have been considered a more significant artist if I was a singer-songwriter. It's just not the way I roll. I love being a curator and a musicologist. People write me letters and thank me for turning them on to Fred McDowell and Sippie Wallace, and that's partly my job this time around.
