The Weekly Newsletter
Menus and Stories for November 20 - December 1, 2006

'Tis the season!
I had a very productive session at my last glassblowing slot. I have finally figured out the ornament! Four hours and a basket full of ornaments later, I am ready to move on to the next thing (or the next color theme).

We've decided to have a staff craft fair/sale on Saturday, December 9th. There are a lot of talented folks here and they thought it'd be fun to sell things and turn the proceeds into Christmas presents for a family (which we are going to "adopt").

I'll tell you more next week, but do jot us down as a "must-visit" on that day.

Virginia Peanuts in cute bags
Aren't these fun?

Feridies, the folks who supply us with peanuts, have these cute muslin bags that are perfect for gift boxes (I'll show you some ideas in the next newsletter), stocking stuffers, or Sunday afternoon football parties.

I just presented a whole bunch of peanut things for my colleagues at Women Chefs and Restaurateurs and these bags caused a big stir - even from the gals from California. "Cute!" was the prevailing sentiment.

Nicole primps
Here's Nicole taking care of the shop. She is our "table gal," "apron-folding gal," "menu-folding gal," and much more. She just celebrated her one year anniversary of working with us - a terrific association for me and for us and for you.

Happy Anniversary Nicole!

Dinners to go
Dinners, as you know, come with a freshly-made green salad, salad dressing of the day, and made-right-here bread of the day. We take reservations until noon or so. Please order by phone (252-1500), by FAX (252-02002) or stop in to speak to one of us in person.

As a reminder, every time you order a dinner to go you are eligible to enter our drawing. Just drop a card in our drawing jar (a business card works or fill out one of the cards that we have right here) and, at the end of the month, we'll pull one card which will be good for two free dinners-to-go.

Maybe you'll win next month.

Order a lot? Enter a lot!
Good luck!!

Special casserole of the week
We make a special casserole each week. Order before noon on Wednesday and we'll have yours ready to pick up between 4:30 and 6:00 that very afternoon. Order a full for 9 portions or, if your gang is smaller, opt for the half-sized one, which serves 4 or so.

They do freeze perfectly so if you want to stock up for the holidays, go right ahead!

This week's offering is
Good Old, Traditional Beef Stew
Full: 18.75
Half: 37.50

Cookies with a Cause
Yup - our neighbors in Hendersonville make these fun cookies and, most importantly, pack them up in folk-art decorated boxes. A portion of the sale of the cookies goes right to the artists, which is a very cool thing. We tuck them into our "Taste of the South" gift baskets which, by the way, are filled with all sorts of things from right around here.

I'll show you a picture next week.

"Burrrton"
Our favorite glass bear is filled to his little hat with pure Vermont-made Maple Syrup.

Cute, eh?

Magnetic irreverence
Find it and more on "The Happy Center."
(This is one of the tamer ones...)

A Note From Laurey

November 22, 2006

I write as we are preparing all of the Thanksgiving dinner to go orders. The cooks got here VERY early (some wont even tell me when they arrived). The shopsters showed up a bit later along with the office gang and the organizing crew. This is a big day for us around here. What a flurry! What fun too!

Im off to visit with my sisters. I think I mentioned that we celebrate the day on Saturday, which is very nice. It is so much easier to drive on Thanksgiving. The roads are quiet. Rest stops are empty. Many places are closed and most people are resting or spending time with their families.

My big sister just got elected to be a Judge in Lexington, Kentucky. This will be the first time weve all gotten together since the election so Im sure well raise a glass I her honor (Her Honors honor, that is!) She takes office right after the New Year begins, which means another trip to Kentucky and another celebration. What a lovely thing this all is!

Im feeling a bit scattered, to tell the truth.

I think Im going to keep this a short note.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Ill be in touch next week.

Cheers!
Laurey

8 more months
Before we know it, it will be time for Sunflowers.
Enjoy the weekend, the holiday season, and this quiet, dark time.
Sunflowers will return faster than we will be able to believe.
