Barry's bounty

Oh tra la! Barry and Laura's fields are full and we are happy. They've started regular deliveries to us and that is a terrific thing indeed.

From B+L and other growers we have local basil, local spinach, local greens, local peaches (from nearby South Carolina) and more. All is good and we're pleased to be able to bring these things to you.

Anne's Delphiniums

These have been gracing our shop's tables and windows lately. Very nice.

We like local things and not all of those things are edible. But aren't they beauties!!!

O Olive Oils and Vinegars

Now that it is salad time again, I suggest you try these terrific tastes from California. We have a variety of vinegars for you. All will mix well with their olive oil. And all the bottles are pretty sleek looking too. No need to hide them away in your cupboards.

Dinners to go

Dinners, as you know, come with a freshly-made green salad, salad dressing of the day, and made-right-here bread of the day. We take reservations until noon or so. Please order by phone (252-1500), by FAX (252-02002) or stop in to speak to one of us in person.

As a reminder, every time you order a dinner to go you are eligible to enter our drawing. Just drop a card in our drawing jar (a business card works or fill out one of the cards that we have right here) and, at the end of the month, we'll pull one card which will be good for two free dinners-to-go.

Maybe you'll win next month.

Order a lot? Enter a lot!
Good luck!!

Oh, we'd happily make a salad and provide bread for you if you like, just let us know when you call and we'll get you all set up.

Ready for Noel and George's Wedding

Our Noel (three-day-a-week office babe) got married last week and celebrated in our transformed Garden Room. I must say, our shop dresses up very nicely. Tonight we're having a rehearsal dinner. Sweetness. I'll see if I can get a picture or two for you.

Trying to decide

Here are some guests studying the offerings.

I actually met someone last week who hates buffets (She says she's scared of them!)

My sisters and I love buffets, love making a morning of it, making many trips to get many small bites of many different foods. It is my favorite way to eat, nibbling, sampling, tasting.

The London Limo arrives
We got to make a picnic for a celebrating couple last week. The limo driver came, picked up our basket of lunch, went and collected the couple, and took them up to the Parkway where they set up and served lunch under the shade of a big tree (I'm making this up, but, well, they MIGHT have, right?) I do know they served on a linen-covered table and used bone china. Nice.

Happy 50th!

A Note From Laurey

June 9, 2007

Hi there. What a day it is. What a day it has already been. What a week, for that matter.

Lets see, the biggest news is that Kether, our Sous Chef, who found out recently that she is pregnant, found out even more recently that she is having twins. She showed up the day after her ultrasound appointment clutching the photographic evidence. There are three pictures. The first is labeled Baby A. The second says, Baby B and the third, TWINS!!! Shes still shocked but, along with her sweet husband, is getting used to the idea. Twins! Wow!

This morning I went over to the market to buy some flowers for tonights festivities. There was an odd fellow sitting in the chairs outside our shop who caught my attention, but, well, sometimes people sit out in our chairs and, when its not too busy I dont make much of a deal about it. A few minutes later I was out behind our shop, talking to the rental drivers who were delivering some items for tonights festivities when all of a sudden the fellow who had been sitting out in the front of my shop went roaring by, scampering through our garden and behind our dumpsters. He was running really fast and in a strange place not the usual jogging path, know what I mean? A second later, the farmers, the ones who had sold me the flowers, came running down the driveway, saying that they had been robbed by that kid.

One of my other neighbors and I took off, running down the street after him. I went one way, Carl went the other way (Carl is REALLY fast!) A moment later I heard a police siren and, when the car neared me I flagged him down, actually heard myself saying, He went THAT way ! and off he went. It was all very wild. I did wonder, as I was running, what the heck I would do if I actually saw the kid but I didnt.

It turns out that the kid dropped the carrying vessel (the farmers childhood lunchbox) but did take all the money. Stupid kid. Stupid.

Now Im back, sitting and reviewing and wondering about it all. Its a beautiful day here, not too hot. This afternoon I head to Barnes and Noble. Tomorrow its off to McIntyres bookstore in Fearrington Village. If you live near there, come say hello.

Ill be in touch next week.

More decision makers

I love hiding behind the counter, watching as people try to figure out what to have. We don't make it easy. The cooks make some 20 salads each day. The shop usually makes a special sandwich of the day, and there is always soup too. My oh my.

The offerings are different every day (except for our standards, that is) which might be why so many people come day after day. If you're one of those people who doesn't know, we have lots of places to sit, so come see.
