Ozark Blues Society of Northwest Arkansas
Hello, Blues Friends! Yes, that's a picture of Pinetop Perkins signing our autographed guitar that will be raffled off at our Blues in the Natural State Festival this year. Raffle tickets for this guitar are available at all our events -- the jams, the soon-to-be-announced Barks, Blues & BBQ fundraiser in June, and of course at the festival (date soon to be announced).

I hope you like this new format for our newsletter -- all comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Your blues performances and events are below, as usual -- have a wonderful time out there.

MAY 28, 29, 30 and 31 – EUREKA SPRINGS BLUES WEEKEND

The 2009 Eureka Springs Blues Weekend will be held in the Victorian vacationland of Eureka Springs, Arkansas on May 28, 29, 30, and 31.

This year's Blues Weekend is a benefit for two awesome non-profit organizations. The Blues Foundation's Handy Artist Relief Trust (HART) fund helps musicians and their families in times of need, especially for medical bills. Turpentine Creek, located just south of Eureka Springs, gives lifetime refuge to hundreds of abused, neglected or unwanted lions, tigers, and yes, bears. You can learn more about the organizations and their programs at www.Blues.org and www.TurpentineCreek.org.

Headliners will perform in shows at The Auditorium and the 1905 Basin Park Hotel's Barefoot Ballroom, and include Guitar Shorty, Hubert Sumlin, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Joe Louis Walker, EG Kight, Mary Flower, RJ Mischo, Lee McBee & The Confessors, John Nemeth, Candye Kane, Deanna Bogart, Moreland & Arbuckle! Opening acts include IBC Winner JP Soars & The Red Hots, Ozarks Blues Society IBC Band Oreo Blue and IBC Duo Kory Montgomery & Isayah Warford. On Sunday, Korey Mattox and LZ Love will perform in a free Sunday Gospel Brunch in Basin Park. Blues photographer David Horowitz will also exhibit photos from his decades of performance photography, and will conduct a photography workshop on Saturday.

There will also be free performances throughout the weekend at Basin Park. Also, area clubs will feature dozens of local, regional and national blues acts, including Patrick Sweany, Jason Ricci, Lightning Red, Rockin’ Jake, Delta Highway, LZ Love and many more! For more info, or to volunteer, please visit www.EurekaSpringsBlues.com.
