Dancing right here!!
Thursday nights are the newest fun addition to our ever-growing list of early-night events right here.  We're calling it "Gourmet Comfort Music."  Come here with friends and listen to local musicians play in our Garden Room.

This week we'll be hosting Jenna Lindbo, a sweet singer/songwriter.  She's quite something and you'll be glad you came.  This picture is of last week's guest, Will Straughan.  I'll definitely invite him back.

And mark your calendars.  Abigail Washburn is coming here for two nights: Monday, January 25 and Tuesday, January 2.  WOW!!!!

Clear and bright
All the glass in our windows is available for your gift-giving pleasure.
Here's a close-up of one of my paperweights.  There are vases too, not to mention baskets filled with all sorts of ornaments.  I have some ornaments at my house and some are tucked around my garden.  Some of the larger ones hang from Shepherd's hooks and some float in my bird baths.  They're surprisingly sturdy.

(Just thought you might like to know...)

A note from Laurey

December 12, 2009

Oh my! As I write our Garden Room is filled with little girls in shiny shoes and pretty little dresses. There are a bunch of mothers here too (no shiny shoes for them.) Everyone is eating Macaroni and Cheese and Brownies and pretty soon they’re all going to go see The Nutcraker Suite. What fun! There are intermittent shrieks from someone. This is a big day for them.

An hour ago the café was filled with Morris Dancers. These old English dancers have bells on their legs and wear old English-y clothes. Tops hats. Long skirts. And they have hoops with greenery and an accordion and a fiddle. They were performing at the Christmas market across the street and came in for some hot chocolate and some warmth. I invited them to dance and they DID!

Who can tell WHAT is going to happen around here these days.

A couple of parties have left. A couple are still being cooked and assembled. All is good. Busy times are happy times in this sort of business. Today I am quite happy. In a little while I’m driving to see Adam and Emily and Henry. I will have a car full of gifts from folks around here. It will be good to see them all. I mean, for a lot of years I saw them every day, all day long. It still is odd to have them gone, getting treatment for my favorite little boy, Monsieur Henri. Looks like they will give the transplant a second go in January. Keep those toes and fingers crossed, please.

It continues to be hard to believe that it is almost Christmas. Is time compressing or is it just me? It used to feel like there was endless time between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. Now, nope!

This Saturday is our Comfort and Joy dinner. (Come, won’t you? It’ll be a lot of fun.) Next week is the last week before Christmas.

WHERE does the time go?

Well, it’s time to clean up from the little girls’ party. And there are menus to write and parties to plan. I hope to see you at one of our jams. Old time is this Tuesday. Uke jams are the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays. And music for listening, “Gourmet Comfort Music” is on Thursdays. Cooking classes. Breakfasts. Sheesh! You COULD just move in, if you wanted to.

I’ll be in touch next week.

Swirly orbs
And here's a batch of new ornaments (a friend of mine calls them "Laur-naments!)  I've got one more day at the Hot Shop this week and then what I HAVE is what I'll have until January when I go back up to Penland.  Joy!
