Meet Dave and Betsy Cypcar

Dave and Betsy Cypcar have lived in the Asheville area for the last 18 years, and have been loyal members of the YMCA for the last five years, ever since their son Andrew, joined the Piranhas competitive Swim team.  They have three children, Andrew, age 20, Brian age 18, and Megan age 15.

When they are at the Y, Betsy enjoys the different group exercise classes that the Y offers, and is thrilled about the friends she has made here! Dave also enjoys socializing with friends in the main weight room upstairs. They both LOVE the Hydrobed! When they are not working out at the Y, Dave and Betsy enjoy volunteering at their church, and for the Boy and Girl Scouts at TC Roberson High.  Betsy also enjoys participating in various craft projects.

"The Y is probably one of the few places in town where there's something to do for everyone in your family," Dave and Betsy say. "If you haven't donated to the Y's annual campaign, consider doing so, as the Reuter YMCA is a great asset that consistently gives back to the WNC community!"

Thank you, Dave and Betsy, for your continued support of our YMCA.  We are very happy to have your family as a part of our family!

Group Exercise Update

Reuter Instructors Attend Expo

On June 17th, ten Reuter Group Exercise Instructors and one member attended the Dowd YMCA Fitness Expo in Charlotte in order to gain continuing education and elevate their instructor skill sets. Attendees participated in a variety of group exercise formats such as Tabata, Core Training, Step, Strength, Kickboxing, Circuit Training, Cycle, and Pilates. Instructors learned cutting edge choreography, class design, exercise science/physiology, and evolving theories and practices in the group exercise industry and how to best bring this information to members. Additionally, instructors Gena Smith, Corey Jacobson, and Group Exercise Coordinator Karyn Kattermann, spent 4 hours in a Core Training workshop with Leslee Bender, creator of the Bender Ball. They learned about the anatomy of the core, how it works, as well as new ideas and methods for traditional and non-traditional core training, including how to create effective and beneficial core classes for members. The Reuter instructors came back refreshed, rejuvenated, motivated, excited, and ready to share all of their new information with our members. Please grab a Group Exercise schedule, join our classes and let our most excellent team of instructors guide you on your journey to health and well being!

Opportunities to Give

The charitable work of the YMCA is supported in part through contributions to the YMCA's annual Healthier Communities Campaign, endowment program, and other contributed income. It is our belief that NO ONE should be turned away for their inability to pay.

Meet Charity Alder

Charity Alder has worked at the Reuter Family YMCA in Child Watch since August 2010.   She has plenty of experience in child care to share with us!  Charity previously worked in daycare for 11 years and owned her own day care for a year and a half.  On top of that, she's mom to 3 year old Landon.

Charity loves the relationships she has made with the parents and children who use Child Watch.  Her favorite part of working at the YMCA is the team structure.  Employees not only from Child Watch, but also from other departments, work together to make everything run smoothly.

In Charity's words:  "I LOVE being a mom...so much of my life feels like it only began when I became Landon's mom. I enjoy time with my family & my friends & my church. I enjoyed dancing & choreography for many years but more recently, I've started playing around with photography. Life is good!"

Charity's enthusiasm and dedication to children shine through every day at work.  She's been a wonderful addition to the Y family!
