SEAN CHAMBERS : : Live From The Long Island Blues Warehouse
One of Guitarist Magazine's Top 50 Blues Guitarists of the last century, Sean Chambers is back with his first live CD. Live From The Long Island Blues Warehouse captures the raw energy and excitement of a Sean Chambers Band live show. The new CD continues the momentum generated by their last release Ten Til Midnight. That CD spent three months on The Living Blues Charts as well as reaching #5 on the XM/Sirius BB King Bluesville Charts and #6 on The House of Blues Radio Charts. Recorded in a studio before a live audience provides the best of both worlds, an accurate representation of the band's live shows without sacrificing any sound quality Songs range from the Elmore James standard, Dust My Broom to the blazing guitar work on Sean's original, In The Wintertime.

PAUL PIGAT : : Boxcar Campfire
Paul Pigat’s many fans are probably more familiar with him as the front man of the rockin’ Cousin Harley band. You might think that acoustic music is a new diversion for the already multi-talented Vancouver musician. Not so. His love for this type of music started back in high school when he discovered the genius of Texas singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. But not everyone is familiar with this side of Paul … that of emotive singer-songwriter.

That situation will soon change, with the release of Boxcar Campfire. Paul Pigat’s latest CD is a collection of songs about love, heartbreak, and redemption; mostly self-penned tunes along with a handful of creatively arranged covers. At one end of the scale are light hearted ditties, and on the other, dark fantasies of the mind. Although laced with tasteful musicianship, this recording is a departure in the sense that the songs rather than the playing are the main feature.

STAN ERHART : : Missing You
By way of Kansas City and Chicago to San Francisco... Stan's roots go back to the family farm near Kansas City, KS; where hard work & play were accompanied by John Deere tractors, V-8 cars, and country guitars. His brother's baritone horn was the first instrument, followed by guitar, vocals, sax, flute, and an interest in keyboards. He spent his college years playing in bands in Michigan, later moving to Chicago to play its clubs, and finally to San Francisco to form one of the busiest bands in the Bay Area. Catch ‘The Stan Erhart Band’ at an event or festival near you. They'll be dishin' up a great big plate of roots rockin' blues, with a little of everything on the side!

'Missing You' CD by Stan Erhart... Recorded & mixed at Garth Webber's Red Rooster Studio, Berkeley, CA. Seven radio friendly originals and six Blues/R&B classics. Stan Erhart on vocals & guitar, Michael Warren on bass (Merl Saunders, Leo Nocentelli), Randy Hayes on drums & harmonies (Coco Montoya, John Wedemeyer), Nancy Wright on tenor sax (B.B. King, John Lee Hooker), Mike Emerson on keys (Elvin Bishop, Percy Sledge), plus Garth Webber on guitar [tracks 10 & 12] (Miles Davis, Ford Brothers Blues Band). Great feel and tight arrangements performed by a world class band that's not afraid to take chances.

All-Stars side project… Stan is a member of The Metro Fountain Blues Festival All-Stars, a 13 piece band brought together by Ted Gehrke (Metro Fest founder) and led by guitarist/vocalist JC Smith. They released a CD in 2011, performed at San Jose's Metro Fountain Blues Festival in both 2010 & 2011, and sold out The Villa Montalvo Carriage House (Saratoga, CA) in March, 2011.

A BIT OF NEW ORLEANS IN OCEAN BEACH

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dr. John and others bring a Big Easy vibe to this year’s Jazz 88 Music & Art Festival

SAN DIEGO, CA. - There are no known plans to move any part of San Diego to Louisiana, or to relocate the city of New Orleans here (although the latter might quickly solve our quest for a larger NFL stadium). But when the sixth edition of the genre-leaping Jazz 88 Ocean Beach Music & Art Festival is held Saturday, there will be an enticing New Orleans-inspired flavor for attendees to savor.

The all-ages festival’s headliner, the oh-so-funky 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dr. John, is a Big Easy native whose name and work have long been synonymous with his music-rich hometown. Other festival acts who hail from New Orleans include alto sax star Donald Harrison and chamber-jazz trio Mark McGrain & Plunge.

BLUES VIDEO OF THE WEEK
Jimi Hendrix was named the top guitar player in Rolling Stones Magazine's The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

Hendrix also has been honored with five Grammy Awards, inducted into the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the U.K  Music Hall of Fame, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was the first person inducted into the Native American Music Hall of Fame, inducted into the United States National Recording Registry and just too many more to list.

All that in only twenty seven years of life.  Simply Amazing.

He deserves every bit.

SINGING THE DISINTEGRATION BLUES
Greg MacPherson gets set to release his new record and launch his new record label at a two-night stand at the West End Cultural Centre.

WINNIPEG, CANADA - After the March 2010 release of Greg MacPherson’s Polaris Music Prize-long-listed fifth album Mr. Invitation, plenty of ink was spilled about how confident and recharged the local singer/songwriter sounded after a five-year gap between records.

"This is my fifth record and I’ve never been this excited," MacPherson told Uptown at the time.

"There’s been an element of frustration with my other recordings, due to lack of experience or lack of studio equipment. In the past, I’ve never felt 100% satisfied about my recordings."

His reignited enthusiasm for making music hasn’t worn off. A year and a half later, Greg is already following up Mr. Invitation with Disintegration Blues — his stellar sixth LP and the first release from his own label, Disintegration Records. (The guy’s been busy.)

"It’s a bit of a compilation," MacPherson says of the new album over coffee at The Fyxx on Broadway. "There’s some stuff I recorded a few years ago and some stuff I wrote specifically for this record — but I did have an idea for it."

GET READY FOR WAGGA JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL!
MUSICAL WEEKEND: The Wagga Jazz and Blues Festival will take over the city this weekend. The Australian Army Band Kapooka, represented by (from left) Brett Spokes, Nick Bowman, Jimmy Stanfield, Graeme Hey and Mark Brown, will perform during the official opening and lead Saturday's street parade. Picture: Michael Frogley

WAGGA, AUSTRALIA - The Wagga Jazz and Blues Festival promises to be one of the best in recent memory.

Despite early fears the festival may not go ahead due to a lack of support, a number of sponsors have since jumped on board and secured Jazz's short-term future in Wagga.

The musical extravaganza starts tomorrow night with the official opening and a performance by the Australian Army Band Kapooka.

After a few stressful weeks, festival president Mick McCall was just looking forward to getting into the music.

"A lot of festivals around Australia are no longer around so I'm just glad we're still alive," he said.

"What I'm really looking forward to is taking off my administrative hat and getting the bass out of its case and playing some good music."

The festival continues on Saturday with a huge market day.

New Monument To Mark Les Paul's Grave In Wisconsin
WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) -- Music legend Les Paul is getting a new granite memorial to mark his gravesite in southeast Wisconsin.
His family and friends are planning a public dedication ceremony on Saturday at his grave at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.

The Les Paul Estate commissioned Rock of Ages of Vermont to design, build and install the 500 square foot granite monument. Ford Construction of Waukesha laid the foundation and New Eden Landscape Architecture of Milwaukee designed the landscaping.

The site will include granite slabs containing Paul's biography.

Nicknamed the "Wizard of Waukesha," Paul created the first solid-body electric guitar and developed technology and recording techniques that set the standard in the industry like tape echo, multitrack recordings and overdubs.

Paul died in 2009 at age 94.

GET ON THE ARKANSAS TIMES BLUES BUS!
EDDIE FLOYD

HELENA, ARKANSAS - Time's tickin' for those of you considering hopping on the Arkansas Times Blues Bus to the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena-West Helena.

Once again, we're hauling busloads of blues-lovers to the Saturday portion of the festival, and once again, it's a hell of a bargain, at $99 a person for round-trip transportation, free booze and entertainment on the bus, plus a stopover in DeValls Bluff for barbecue at Craig's.

The bus leaves Sat. Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. from the parking garage at 2nd and Main streets downtown and returns that evening. The headliner for Saturday night is Keb' Mo'. Other performers include Marcus "Mookie" Cartwright, Lonnie Shields, Tommy Castro and the Stax Review with Eddie Floyd, Duck Dunn and Steve Cropper, plus many more.

TWEED FUNK IN THE HOUSE
Tweed Funk’s Debut CD, “Bringin It,” has spent 13 weeks on the Roots Music Report Blues Internet Chart and 6 weeks in Top 5. Featuring the great vocals of Joseph “Smokey” Holman the band successfully pulls together their influences of blues, funk, soul, gospel, jazz, and elements of hip-hop.

“Tweed Funk have taken the traditions of the blues and today's music to successfully forge a unique sound all their own.” – Nashville Blues Society

“Singer Smokey started out under Curtis Mayfield and demonstrates that he has a fine voice for soul and blues. The playing throughout is very good, especially the guitar of JD Optekar.” – The Blues Blast Magazine

Sly & the Family Stone, Santana, Curtis Mayfield, Parliament, Johnny Guitar Watson, all names that come to mind when listening to Tweed Funk.” – Rootstime Magazine

Tweed Funk is building upon the success of some great summer performances with the following key September dates: WGN-TV; House of Blues – Chicago; Paramount Blues Festival After-party at the Bridge Inn; and The Miramar Theatre.

While the band’s CD (which was produced entirely in-house after the band had played just a few gigs together) has helped garner national recognition, their live performance is combination of show-stopping entertainment and great musicianship. Tweed Funk has just released a new Promotional Video that captures their high-energy performance on the festival stage. Please view Tweed Funk’s Promotional Video by clicking below!

TIME Magazine highlights the Blues Highway in Photo Essay
Photographer Ed Keating set out a couple of years ago to follow the blues path back toward the origins. He began in Chicago, the stormy, brawling city that once drew Delta bluesmen northward like a mighty magnet. From that mecca—home to Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Elmore James, Blind Lemon Jefferson and on and on—Keating headed south, retracing the steps, taking pictures in the appropriate hues of black and white.

Blues Foundation Board Reviews Hall of Fame Plans
The Blues Foundation's Board of Directors met Saturday, August 27.

The primary agenda item was the presentation by Design 500 and archimania, respectively the museum planning and architectural firm hired by The Blues Foundation in May to prepare plans on how best to utilize the almost 12,000 square feet of space on two levels at 421 South Main.

Though the space currently offers the opportunity to display artifacts, signed guitars and photos and artwork, the current displays are not curated such that they serve The Blues Foundation's mission--preserving our blues music history, celebrating recording and performance excellence, supporting blues education and ensuring the future of this uniquely American art form.

The plans presented by Design 500 and archimania on Saturday call for a physical Blues Hall of Fame, that will honor the men and women who created this music and educate visitors about the music that has been deemed the best in blues in annual induction ceremonies since 1980. The goal is to transform the current office space into a true international home for blues music.

SUSAN TEDESCHI AND DEREK TRUCKS BAND:

Susan Tedeschi and husband Derek Trucks merge their musical careers to form the Tedeschi/Trucks Band. The CD is Revelator. They join Elwood to talk about their mutual influences, the joys of making married music, along wit the perils and glories of fronting an eleven piece band. Tunes from REVELATOR will be spun, along with other husband wife combos, Ike and Tina Turner, Delaney and Bonnie, and Rod and Honey Piazza. Plus: Howlin’ Wolf, Son House, and new music from Texas bluesman and former member of Asleep at the Wheel, Johnny Nicholas. Here on the website, Top Cat Records has five copies of Johnny’ new CD, FUTURE BLUES, to give away. Also: thanks to our friends at hellomusic.com, there’s a chance for you to win a new Epiphone electric guitar and Fender amp. You know where to go.
