The 3RD Annual Beneficial Reggae 2012
Proudly presented by Tap Nat Muzik LLC
August 18th and 19th 2012 |

(I-taweh photo left.) The 3rd Annual Beneficial Reggae2012 is to be held once again at the beautiful Frey Winery, nestled in the stunning Redwood Valley in Mendocino County, California. This year’s show will be held in the Tomki Meadow, where families and friends will come together and leave their worries behind to enjoy an impressive, conscious, musical line up, and an exciting array of hand-picked craft vendors and international cuisine. Gates will open at 11:30 AM Saturday and Sunday.
Each year Tap Nat Muzik, a production/promotion company and music label owned by reggae artist I-taweh and his wife Kristi Cunningham, put on a show in order to raise money for a worthy cause. In 2010 with the help of Adam and Kim Frey, and parents from River Oak Charter School, they helped raise approximately $17,000 for the school’s 8th grade class. In 2011 they raised money for the African Birth Collective. The beneficiaries for Beneficial Reggae 2012 are MCAVHN (Mendocino County AIDS and Viral Hepatitis Network) and Mother Health International. MCAVHN’s mission is to stop the transmission of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C, and to care for those living with, affected by, or at risk by reducing harmful practices and promoting healthy lifestyles. Mother Health International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to respond and provide relief to pregnant women and children in areas of disaster, war and extreme economic poverty. Thanks to the generous sponsors of this year’s festival, Tap Nat Muzik hopes to raise $30,000 to divide between the two non-profits.
CAMPING
Although Tap Nat Muzik hopes to include camping at the festival in the near future, this year there will NOT be any camping on site. There are a few nearby campgrounds and hotels which will fill up fast so make your reservation right away.

Bob Marley Day Declared in Los Angeles |

By Phyllis Pollack
The City Council declared Tuesday as “Bob Marley Day” in Los Angeles this morning at a ceremony held in downtown Los Angleles at City Hall. The proclamation honoring the iconic reggae singer was accepted by his daughter Karen Marley, and his oldest son, five-time Grammy Award winner Ziggy Marley. Councilman Tom LaBonge delivered the presentation. Born as Robert Nesta (Bob) Marley in 1945, the singer, songwriter, guitarist and activist's music catapulted awareness of reggae music to an international audience. His single-handed influence on music can not be underestimated.

The artwork for the film Marley
Many artists have covered his songs, most famously, Eric Clapton's 1974 remake of Bob Marley and the Wailers' “I Shot the Sheriff." It was later covered by rap artist Warren G.
The late Joe Strummer of The Clash paired up with the late Johnny Cash for a rendition of "Redemption Song."
An endless list of artist of other genres have been influenced by Marley's music, including No Doubt and most recently Snoop Dogg, who recently changed his name to Snoop Lion. A documentary film about Snoop Dogg's conversion to the Rastafarian religion and his admiration for Bob Marley will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7.

Grassroots Festival Review 2012 |

2012 was another incredible year for the Grassroots Festival in Trumansburg, NY. This is the 7th year in a row that I've traveled to this festival and it always meets my musical needs and energizes me for the second half of the summer. The line up had a little something for everyone.. Malian Hip Hop with SMOD, Latin-Reggae-Hip Hop heat from Locos Por Juana (friday night in the dance tent was off the chain!! Big ups to my twin sistar Sarah who broke it down, literally, in B-Girl style with a Latina flair on stage), Native American traditional songs and dance with Moontee Sinquah, amazing American country rockers Firefly, my good friends John Brown's Body, super amazing African Rock band Oumar Konate and the ever present late night zydeco in the dance tent... and oh so many more incredible acts and creatives sharing their gifts, energy and talents with thousands of festival goers. The crowd was peaceful and engaged in the good vibrations, there was very little security presence, the weather was great, the port-o-potties were always clean and well stocked, they recycle and compost and all of the valuables we left in our tent all weekend remained in tact. All in all it was another great year at Grassroots. If you haven't attended I highly recommend this festival.

It's family and kid friendly, safe, fun and located in a beautiful area in central NY State just north of Ithaca. You can learn more at: www.Grassrootsfest.org
One love,
Laura Haykel

Dubtonic Kru Embarks on "THE JOURNEY" U.S. Tour PT 2 |

In Spring 2010 a band out of Kingston, Jamaica called Dubtonic Kru embarked on the US music scene hitting major territories from West to North West moving across to the Midwest leaving a musical revolution behind.
Two years later in 2012 they made their debut appearance in Austin, TX at the famous SXSW World Music Conference. A month later, they returned and gave the 20,000 filled audience of the Austin Reggae Festival some authentic reggae music fused with a little rock – Dubtonic Kru delivered the right amount of "dub" medicine.Their undeniable impact on the US scene has seen this dynamo of a band expanding their audience base to the Southern states such as Louisiana, Georgia reaching as far as Central America in countries like Mexico in their "Journey Tour" Part 1 Spring 2012.
Responses from the US audiences have been phenomenon - band member Jubba explains, "the vibe has been great and we just give thanks that they have accepted our music", he continued.
Their popularity in the states have not waned as they have touched major festivals including Summerfest World Music Festival in Milwaukee, The Bayfront Reggae Festival in Minnesota, the Sierra Nevada Music Festival and the Monterey Bay Reggae Festival in California among others.
As Jamaica celebrates fifty years of independence with much noise all over the world, Dubtonic Kru will add their distinct sound on part 2 of the Journey Tour which kicks off August 2012 back in the USA.
This is certainly some medicine you must have…Dub and tonic - the Dubtonic Kru, Winner of Global Battle of the Band 2010-2011.
Be sure to catch them at a location near you.

Reggae & Dancehall Artists Come Together To Say
Happy Anniversary Jamaica |

Maria Jackson, the CEO and owner of MJE recently invited several artists to be a part of the Anniversary Riddim, which is a seven track rhythm driven project focused entirely on celebrating the beautiful island of Jamaica in this our 50th year of independence. Artists featured on the Anniversary Riddim are Mikey General, Bunny General, Rasta Bogle, Asante Amen, Karamanti, Deadly, Jennifer Barrett and the entire Frenz For Real team. Over melodies and rhymes each artist expressed their love for their country as well as their thoughts on reaching this milestone. The general consensus among the artists is that despite having several internal problems to iron out, Jamaica is still one of the best place to live and/or visit.
Persons can listen to a wonderful nine minutes mix of all the songs on the Anniversary Riddim here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z1pPMcbNJs and purchase their favorite song or the entire compilation here: http://itunes.apple.com/album/anniversary-riddim/id549539332
In addition to the album, MJE with the assistance of My Jamaican Zone, Mikhail “Tinman” Williams and Pelpa Time of Grove Productions, created a one hour documentary which has each artist speaking on various issues ranging from the current state of the music industry to the beauty of Jamaica. It will be aired simultaneously on www.myjamazon.com, www.mjent.net, www.youtube.com/swagtvja and Swag TV (Oliver Electronics cable, channel 59, Portmore) on Monday, August 6th (Jamaica’s Independence Day). After the initial streaming on the aforementioned channels, persons can visit www.mjent.net for additional schedules on other local channels across the island.
On behalf of everyone at Maria Jackson Entertainment and all the artists, producer and engineers affiliated with this project, we would like to wish all Jamaicans at home and abroad a happy Independence Day.

Pablo Moses -- Touring North America
- August / September, 2012 |

The reggae revolutionary, Pablo Moses, with his band the Revolutionary Dream Band is one of the most dynamic and lyrically potent reggae acts available. Pablo Moses is a deep thinking poet and a meticulous music producer who works with the best musicians, studios and engineers.Pablo performs in Japan, South America and North America, and has toured Europe consistently over the last thirty years. His face and music are well known all over the world.
2010 and 2011 Pablo Moses performed on US festivals such as The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Monterey Bay Reggaefest and Reggae on the River, in California and on Reggae on the Mountain near Eugene OR. February 2010 Pablo Moses did a successful west coast U.S. tour that included the Bob Marley day festival in Tijuana, Mexico and in San Diego, CA, and before that he toured the western US in August 09. Pablo then toured Europe two times, doing the festivals there, before returning to the U.S. where he did the Northwest World Reggaefest amongst other western U.S. dates. Pablo is currently very strong in Europe where he tours consistently and is greatly appreciated.
Pablo is a powerful live performer with a relevant message. He continues to study and educate himself on the true realities of the world around him. His music shares his penetrating vision of these realities, and helps his listeners to contemplate the current human conditions and open their minds to new understandings. Pablo shares with his listeners an alternative education to that given in the schools. His message is serious in bringing to light the corruption of the system, and in upholding a higher standard of social living. His musical arrangements are intricate and dramatically executed. His catalogue is extensive.
Pablo Moses will go down in history as one of the founding fathers of roots and culture reggae music. He toured North America for years in the eighties and nineties as a forerunner in the reggae business. Albums such as Revolutionary Dream, A Song, Pave the Way, In the Future, We Refuse and Mission are reggae classics.
Pablo Moses continues to fight the universal revolution, hitting consistently with music for the cause of the poor, oppressed and underprivileged. Pablo helps bring to light the hypocrisies of the capitalistic system. "Social living is the best", says Pablo who is surely a man with a mission and a higher purpose. See him perform live and you will witness these qualities firsthand.
Pablo Moses is one of the reggae greats.

Red Fest is an all ages outdoor music event designed to promote quality music and fun in beautiful Red River, NM.
In it’s third year, Red Fest Musical Festival presents:
The Wailers - Together with Bob Marley, the Wailers have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide. Outside of their groundbreaking work with Marley, the Wailers have also played or performed with international acts like Sting, the Fugees, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, and Alpha Blondy, as well as reggae legends such as Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and Burning Spear. As the greatest living exponents of Jamaica’s reggae tradition, the Wailers have completed innumerable other tours, playing to an estimated 24 million people across the globe.
Hieroglyphics - Founded in 1997 in Oakland, CA, Hiero Imperium Records is Del The Funky Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Domino, and the Souls of Mischief, made up of A-Plus, Opio, Phesto and Tajai. Coming off waves of success from earlier releases like Souls' '93 Til Infinity, the Hiero crew had already established themselves as a name in underground hip-hop, and soon released their first
collective project Third Eye Vision. Since then the Hiero team has been thriving in the hip-hop world, releasing a number of projects within the label as well as branching out for collaborations with the likes of Jurassic 5, George Clinton, Dilated Peoples, Q-Tip, Xzibit and Gorillaz.
Vokab Kompany - San Diego band Vokab Kompany (Voted San Diego Music Awards “Best Hip Hop” act 2011) has been gaining national notoriety based on the success of their song “So Bright” and it’s appearance in international car company KIA with their 2010 Summer Sales Event Commercial and on The Today Show with Al Roker. The success continued into 2011 with another national Southern Comfort Fiery Pepper commercial, collaborating on the single “Burn It Down” with fellow bandmate; saxophonist, Jesse Malloy, and his production duo Crush Effect.
Nosotros - Seamlessly combines Latin rhythms with the elements of Flamenco, Jazz, Salsa, and Rock, creating an original sound that is unmistakably Nosotros. But M.E. Schenck of Hyperactive Music Magazine may have interpreted their sound best by saying “Nosotros’ music is not to be explained, it is to be felt in the pit of our souls.”
James and the Devil - Your All-Original Rocky Mountain grown Hiphopfiddle’n Funk Rock Band.. Delivering powerful, melodic high energy driven shows in the Rocky Mountain region of the USA.

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.
It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows. Your call... |
