Our hearts and prayers go out to all families struggling with the loss of their child.

Nutrition Corner

Trying to navigate a child's dietary needs while undergoing chemotherapy or radiation can be challenging. Can I get a loud - duh? Especially when the only thing they want to eat may have little or no nutritional value.

Sugar is something we hear about quite often. Most of us have heard that sugar feeds cancer cells - making a sweet snack a source of guilt for parents.

We offer many snacks in our snack baskets that contain sugar - some natural (we try to err on the natural side) and some that are processed because kids and parents find them delicious and comforting.

This is an interesting article on the subject of sugar and cancer. As with most things in life, balance is a good rule to follow.

Sugar and Cancer - Is there a Connection?

And speaking of sugar: Here is an article about foods that may hide a great deal of sugar with some alternative suggestions.

Extending our Hand to New Families

Just before her fourth birthday, Marleigh was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). Marleigh lives in Spokane and likes going to the lake, fishing, campfires, 4-wheeling, Dora, Princesses, and Dolls.

Ruth was also diagnosed this December with ALL. Ruth is also four years old and lives in Sunnyside WA. She has two brothers and likes baby dolls and stuffed animals.

Skyler recently joined our group after being treated for an Ependymoma brain tumor in 2006. Skyler is from the Spokane Valley and has three brothers and five sisters. Skyler is 17 years old.

We extend our support to these new families along with three others who chose not to be listed. Please stop by our office, call 509-474-2759 or 509-443-4162, or email: office@accoinlandnw.org for assistance.
