North Country Administrators to Participate in Leadership Program

North Country Education Services will begin a year-long Executive Development Leadership Program through the National Institute of School Leadership for 24 administrators beginning in February. Participants will come together two-days per month for this internationally benchmarked program focused on transforming school leadership for improving student learning at scale.

The project was made possible through a combination of a private foundation grant, local district funds and additional support through the Rural School Educator Effectiveness Collaboration SAHE project.  There may be a couple spaces available and interested school administrators should contact NCES Executive Director Ray Healey at rhealey@ncedservices.org.

Second Chance to Enter Student Film Festival

The submission of films for the North Country Middle School Film Festival has been reopened. The new deadline is Friday, March 8th, 2013.

A very broad theme, Our World, Our Fate, was chosen to allow teachers in any discipline to serve as a team advisor (though the content does not have to be limited to your discipline). There is a stipend available for the team advisor.  The films are limited to 2 minutes.

Please contact Lori Langlois at lori@ncedservices.org for more information or if you would like to serve a team advisor for your school. Open to New Hampshire students in grades 6, 7 & 8 from schools in SAUs 3, 7, 9, 20, 23, 35, 36, 58, 68, 77 & 84 and Vermont schools in SUs 19 & 21. For K‐6 schools, you may include grade 5 students on the team if necessary.

Common Core Literacy Standards Workshop for Content Area Teachers Grades 6-12

In this interactive, one-day workshop, middle and high school teachers will deepen their understanding of the Common Core Literacy Standards for Science, Social Studies and Technical subjects. Participants will learn about the rationale and research behind the literacy shifts of the new standards. Through discussion, guided exploration and other activities, participants will create measurable literacy learning targets based on the Common Core Standards. Participants will observe and try out effective instructional strategies designed to enhance content area learning while building transferable literacy skills for students. Every participant will leave with a resource book of instructional strategies to incorporate into his/her content area.

K-8 teachers, interested in summer Intel math seminar?

There may be an opportunity for NCES to host another round of the Intel Math Seminar this summer. Given the size of the group last year, we are trying to assess how many new participants would be interested in the 10 day training.

To be eligible for this free seminar, you must meet both criteria:
1. You are K-3 or K-6 certified, but not 5-8 or secondary math certified.
2. You currently teach at K - 8 level.

It is anticipated that 6 free graduate credits will be available.

Please contact Matt Treamer as soon as possible if you might be interested at 603-466-5437 or matt@ncedservices.org.

Interested in Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing (LiPS)?

We are assessing the level of interest in the 3-day Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing (LiPS) training. LiPS develops phoneme awareness. Students learn to recognize how their mouths produce the sounds of language. This kinesthetic feedback enables reading, spelling, and speech. Please contact Lori Langlois if you might be interested in participating at 603-466-5437 or lori@ncedservices.org.
