The Seattle Art Museum Art of Jazz concert series in association with Earshot Jazz and KPLU 88.5 FM present A Valentine's Day Jazz Celebration with the Dmitri Matheny Group. Dmitri Matheny flugelhorn, Nick Manson piano, Chris Higgins bass, Robert Rushing drums, Jim Wilke master of ceremonies. The concert will be recorded live for radio broadcast on KPLU. The downtown Seattle Art Museum offers an outstanding permanent collection and notable special exhibits. The Nash, owned and managed by the nonprofit Jazz in Arizona, is named for Arizona native and "the most valuable player in jazz" (Modern Drummer), Lewis Nash. Dmitri Matheny at MTV Artists
Dmitri is pleased to announce his participation in MTV.com/artists, a new online initiative launched by MTV. The site offers fans a stream of music videos, interviews, media articles, photos and albums by their favorite recording artists. The site also offers fans the opportunity to donate directly to their favorite musicians without a middleman. Additionally, participating artists receive 50 percent of all ad revenue. "This is a very pro-artist initiative," says Shannon Connolly, senior vp of digital music strategy for MTV, "to help artists get heard, get promoted and get paid."

Workshop: Melodic Mastery
Improvisation Clinic for Musicians
Throughout the 2013-14 season, Dmitri Matheny is partnering with community organizations to present Melodic Mastery, a series of jazz improvisation workshops for aspiring musicians. Based on the teachings of his mentor, jazz legend Art Farmer (photo), Matheny advocates a lyrical, melodic approach with an emphasis on deep listening and jazz-as-conversation. The series begins June 30th at the Jazzschool in Berkeley, California.
