Chicago Israeli Dancing Weekly Update 2/6/13 - Updated

In this issue

Hi Everyone,

**************************************************************************************************

THIS IS YESTERDAY'S POST BUT UPDATED WITH AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM ESTHER AT THE END OF THE NEWSLETTER

****************************************************************************************************************

Let's start off with a few personals.  First, it was great to have Ilanit back with us after what sounds like a great trip.

And hopefully Lauren will be back this week after what also sounds like a great trip to Israel.

Speaking of which, the Moss family will be assembling in Israel soon to spend time with our Danny, the rabbi-to-be.  We are all very excited.  So, which harkadot in and which places and one what nights should I try to attend?  Seeking your highly subjective opinons.  :o)  For that matter, what touristy things should we do given that we've been to Israel a number of times before and have done most of the standard stuff?

And here is a shout out to Bonnie who has been visiting with her dad on the east coast.  We miss you and hope that all is well.  Come back soon!

And one more shout out, this time for Carole, to thank her for the work she is doing on a new flyer for Chicago Israeli Dancing!

Video of the Week

Not sure yet if this will be a regular new feature.   But so far so good.

In the very much fun department, enjoy this clip of some of the Yonim Dancers from Madison WI performing live on local TV.  What a thrill:

http://www.wkow.com/story/20955546/2013/02/04/yonim-israeli-dance-troupe-performs

Here is the video of the week.  It is a circle dance entitled Hinach Yafa to a recording of the Idan Raichel Project and choreographed by Orly Setareh from LA.  (Neither the tune nor the dance have anything to do with the classic partner dance by the same name.)  Congratulations, Orly!

I am leaving this link up for Yoreket Esh, partner dance by Gadi Bitton, sung by Sagiv Cohen.  We've worked hard on it so I want to give it a little more reinforcement.  And if you'd like to see spectacular lady dancer, make sure to take a look at his one.  We reviewed this dance last week.

In the cateogory of fun, but still very related to what we are all about, take a look at this one.  By now, you know that this is the Tza'ad Kadima project recording of Anshei Hageshem as sung by Micha Bitton.  And it also features our friends, Liza Tzur and Ofer Alfassy.  Enjoy!

As we continue to work on making this newsletter more interesting, here are a couple of pics that Carol took last week.  Eventually some may find their way to the masthead.  A work in progress but a great start.  Thanks so much, Carol.

Time: Monday evenings, 7:00 to around 8:30

For more information contact dtoby(at)comcast.net or bhtoby(at)comcast.net.

Join our friendly group to connect with Israeli culture, enjoy some physical activity and sharpen your memory through Israeli folk dancing. We do plenty of circle and line dances, with some partner dances mixed in.

Most of the dances we do are beginner/intermediate level.  All ages and experience levels are welcome, including children accompanied by a parent.

We meet almost every Monday with dances for beginners from 7 pm to 7:45 pm and then move on to intermediate dances until around 8:30. When time permits, we take a few requests from 8:30 to 8:45.  Visitors are always welcome. Our regular dancers love to watch the more advanced dances.  If visiting from out of town, we'll play requests if you tell us ahead of time.

Our partner dance repertoire is small and still growing. Women are encouraged (but not required) to learn both parts. The etiquette in our group is partner switching/partner rotation.

Open to the community. For security purposes, we ask that people joining for the first time contact the CBS office at (630) 961-1818, and ask for Dorothy, to let us know you are coming, and to make sure that we are meeting on that date.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ESTHER!!!

Dear Friends of AFIWDF,

I'm happy to announce a fundraiser to benefit the American Friends of Israel War Disabled Foundation on Sunday, March 17 with the Next Theater Company in the Noyes Cultural Center at 927 Noyes Street  in Evanston.

The Next Theater Company's upcoming production is Jonathan Safran Foer's Everything is Illuminated, adapted for the stage by Simon Block.  It chronicles a young Jewish man's journey as he struggles to unlock the secrets of his past. It follows the quirky journey of Jonathan scouring the rural Ukraine landscape in the search of a woman who may have saved his grandfather from the Nazis, accompanied by an old man haunted by memories of the war, an amorous and excitable dog named Sammy Davis Jr. Jr., and an irreverent translator with a unique grasp of the English language.

Join us at 1:00 PM before the show for an hour of light refreshment and camaraderie at the Noyes Cultural Center in the studio right next door to the theater entrance. The play  begins at 2:00 PM. Advance copies of the script will be available and we are invited to a special post-show discussion with members of the cast and artistic team.

The cost for this wonderful afternoon is only $36.00 per person.  Make your checks out to AFIWDF.

Please respond as soon as possible to reserve your tickets as they are limited.  (esthermosh@aol.com) Tell your family and friends, this is one program they shouldn't miss! Hope to see you all real soon!

Take care,

Esther Calamaro
