PPI Corner
Do you have an idea for a PPI project?
|
 |
How does PPI work?
PPI is both logical and simple. Using proven hands-on methodology, teams of employees learn the tools and immediately apply them to a real business problem in their functional area. Measurable results are key to process improvement. The teams collect data, analyze it to find solutions, and then test the results, using metrics. Once the solutions are proven effective, they are implemented and then monitored to ensure that the results are sustained.
PPI ideas can be submitted to your manager or through Outlook using the form named “PPI HMD Idea Form”.

Mission Possible Challenge:
At Fisher HealthCare, as an integral part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, our mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.
In every hospital, customers use our products and services to help doctor’s makes decisions to treat patients. Whether a clinician using our Thermo Scientific Remel Xpect Flu A&B kit to test patients for flu or pathologists using our Thermo Scientific Anatomical Pathology products to automate tissue processing and slide staining for cancer diagnostics. What we do makes a difference not only for our customers, but often for us, our families and friends.
To enhance our understanding and awareness of the many ways that we fulfill our mission, we have established Mission Possible, a knowledge center designed to educate and inspire employees by explaining our products and how they work, and sharing how we are making a difference in the world around us.
David would like to challenge our organization in June to share some of the stories where the products we sell every day have made the difference in people’s lives. For the month of June, David is offering a $150 award for the best story from our HMD organization. We will judge each one of them and post the best one on the HMD iConnect website. This is open to all employees within the HMD organization. Please submit your nominations at the following link and we will announce the winner in June at our HMD Town Hall Meeting:

Thousands of leeches are used for medical emergencies every year.
The leech’s blood sucking accelerates healing on any deep wound but especially after re-attaching a severed limb or any other deep wound. The leech feeds off the oxygenated blood that would otherwise cause swelling and gangrene. The sucking assists the flow of blood and an anticoagulant in the leech prevents scabbing. The sucking is painless because the leech releases an anesthetic.
Of the 650 types of leeches, only a small number of Hirudo species are used, the most popular being the Hirudo medicinalis. They’re usually sold 20 to a pack, at US $7 apiece.
