Greetings from your Editor...

Have a natural ball...

"Let your hair down baby, let's have a natural ball. If you don't let your hair down we can't have no fun at all." Well, folks... July 14 is National Nude Day (originated in Finland)... on a Sunday no less. Interestingly, there's lot of sites promoting Nude Day T-shirts which is hilarious. How can you wear a T-shirt on National Nude Day? My band and I actually played a party at a nudist ranch once and beleive me, we were happy that some did have at least t-shirts on. Blind Lemon Jefferson first recorded the song "Match Box Blues" in 1927. This "holiday" might give those lyrics, "sitting here wondering will a matchbox hold my clothes," a new meaning.

Summer seems to be in full swing with festivals galore to chose from (too many to list in the e-Guide so make sure to check our site). There's like 30 of them just THIS weekend: Canada, California, Switzerland, Mississippi, Nebraska, Finland and dozens more...... umm, I see Finland's festival is NOT on the 14th.

If you're also celebrating National Nude Day somewhere hot, you'd better break out the sunscreen. Whatever you do, have a natural ball!

Birthdays of note: July 13 Long John Hunter (1931), July 14 Dick Waterman (1935), July 15 Washboard Sam (1910), Willie Cobbs (1932), July 16 Denise LaSalle (1939)

Talk to ya next week!

Your ever-grateful editor,

Michele Lundeen

Wingnut Adams :: WELCOME TO GROOVELAND

Wingnut Adams was honored by The West Coast Blues Hall of Fame as "Band Leader of the Year." Averaging over 200 dates annually year after year, Adams brings great roots music to the people. From small blues dives to large festivals, this blues man delivers the goods.

Wingnut Adams sets the bar high, there is no middle ground. Sweat and soul, every time, all the time! As a direct result of his live shows, he has sold over 30,000 CDs without industry support.

Blues Blast magazine says of Wingnut Adams’ newest release, Welcome To Grooveland: "On the inner sleeve of this CD appears the motto: “Dedicated to the pursuit of the groove”. The California-based Wingnut and crew need to look no further, they have definitely found it in spades! They are a stripped-down funk unit-drums-bass-guitar-organ and occasional harmonica. The “Wing” man handles vocals, drums and harmonica. His Memphis-tinged “blue-eyed soul” voice fits the grooves quite nicely... Read entire review here.

Gino Matteo :: SWEET REVIVAL

Gino Matteo has developed a reputation as an acclaimed guitarist and exceptional singer-songwriter, writing and performing with the likes of such legends as B.B. King, John Mayer, Jonny Lang, John Fogerty, Parliament /Funkadelic, Aaron Neville, Carl Weathersby, and Jason Ricci. Gino's second full-length album Sweet Revival (Rip Cat Records), embraces his more introspective side as a songwriter, as well as his diverse musical influences of the blues, soul, gospel, funk, and rock.

Sweet Revival, makes clear that blues proudly exists in his DNA, but in addition to honest blues feelings and technique, he brings intelligent, grown-up rock and traces of funk, r&b and gospel to his surprising, enterprising music. An uncommoningly good electric and acoustic guitarist as well as a persuasive lead singer, Matteo is also a melodist and a conscientious crafter of lyrics. From the non-preachy opener, "Here Comes The Lord," his songs cut to the heart of personal perseverence.

Among the talented colleagues helping out on the Sweet Revival are co-producer/guitarist Joey Delgado (from L.A.'s popular Delgado Brothers), harmonica player Jason Ricci, keyboardist Dave Kelly and singer Jade Bennett, Matteo wife.

Magic City Blues – Montana’s Urban Music Festival – August 8-11

The word is out about a music festival in a state that's known more for hunting, fishing and wide-open spaces than 4 days of world-class music. Fans from all over the country have discovered Magic City Blues. Our natural Montana hospitality, unique settings and fabulous lineups have created an atmosphere that most festivals can only dream about.

Call him the Gangster of Love. Call him Maurice. You can even call him the The Joker or Space Cowboy. Everybody knows that Steve Miller speaks the pompitus of love Vintage Trouble channels Otis Redding, Chuck Berry and Ike and Tina Turner in a dazzling live show like a sweet southern down-home revival mixed with a gritty, downtown edge.

Sixteen albums and five Grammys deep into his career, blues torchbearer Robert Cray no longer has anything to prove to anyone.

USA Today has called Allen Stone a “pitch-perfect powerhouse”and The New York Times has likened his socially conscious music to that of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Bill Withers.

Seventeen years after their harmonica laced breakthrough hit, Blues Traveler are still finding unique ways to ensure that they don't give their legion of worldwide fans the "Run-Around."
