Hi Everyone,
Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to all friends/family/loved ones in Israel. Just to name a few names, we are thinking of Nehama, Eli Bader (Judy's husband), David Lewis and his family, and my own cousin and his family. Of course there are so many more with whom we have connections and with whom we have no direct ones. Please stay safe. Praying for Israel and an end to the hostilities.

I was proud to see a number of you at the Stand With Israel rally on Monday at the Thompson Center. It was wonderful to see so much support there. A shout out to Amrya who stood with me during the program.
I am continually reminded that our side calls for peace for all. Their side calls for death to our people. To me, this kind of says it all.

As you may know, Gadi Bitton just released a dance called Golani Sheli. The music is Shlomi Shabat's cover of a song from a number of years ago. (There was even a dance by Yehuda Emanuel but I am not sure that it was ever really done.) Anyway, the song is about the Golani, one of Israel's most famous army brigades. (read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golani_Brigade). And the dance is being introduced all over the Israeli dance world, both in Israel and outside. It will be taught tonight at the Tuesday night group in Skokie and on Thursday night as well. Here is a clip of the dance featuring Gadi and "a few of his friends."

(In this particular clip, the music has been dubbed over the original video.)

You have undoubtedly been hit up by many organizations raising money for Israel at this difficult time. I'd like you to be aware of a fund raising effort that Bruria and Yoram are leading for their group and that we will support at Chicago Israeli Dancing as well this Thursday night. I personally like this idea because it feels a little more personal and a way to make a direct difference. Here is what they wrote:
Dear Dancers,
Our community is raising funds to support the Israeli Soldiers with knee pads, ace bandages, kevlar vests and other items. The money donated from our community will go to the Givaati Brigade's accountant, who will purchase the necessary items and will send us itemized receipts. We suggest $20.00 per family. So far we have raised $736.00
You may bring with you tomorrow (7/29).
P.S. Toronto is collecting tonight and will join our forces.
We will include a videotape of us dancing "Golani Sheli"
HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE & PARTICIPATE
תודה,
Bruria & Yoram
Bruria continues:
For those who needed to know, the donations are going to Mercantile Bank in Natanya branch #647. It is exciting to know that Intel has given a nice donation, together we can make a difference in many areas of our soldiers' desperately needed items! The account is under the name of one of the soldier's father, an accountant, since it is not possible to open under the unit's name. He will send us a thank you letter along with the itemized items purchased.

Still keeping this up for a bit. Here's a link to yet another video of the Flash Mob at the Greater Chicago Jewish Festival. This one was shot by the "Official" camera!

Big thanks go out to all of you who participated and supported this amazing project. Thanks also to Lauren Vogelstein who choreographed the dance and provided the artistic direction. And thanks also to Naomi Bayer and many others from our Festival Committee. Penny and I are very grateful to all of you. Can't wait until the next Festival. Maybe we'll have another surprise then. :o)

Last week Sarah taught Birkat Haderech by Gadi Bitton, which Sagiv Cohen, the song's writer, recently rededicated to the safety of our people in harm's way.

For those who try to find Israeli dance videos on line, I wanted to make sure you know that you can find many of them at:
http://www.rokdim.co.il/rikudim/chipusRikudimOL.asp
You can watch the whole video there on the site. And if you want to download it, you can make arrangements to purchase it there. I do believe that for the most part, once a dance makes it on to the Rokdim site, it is less likely to change than dances published only in other places. This is not an absolute rule of the universe, but in general I believe it is so. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this resource.
As always, enjoy!

Join our friendly group to connect with Israeli culture, enjoy some physical activity and sharpen your memory through Israeli folk dancing. We do plenty of circle and line dances, with some partner dances mixed in.
Most of the dances we do are beginner/intermediate level. All ages and experience levels are welcome, including children accompanied by a parent.
We meet almost every Monday with dances for beginners from 7 pm to 7:45 pm and then move on to intermediate dances until around 8:30. When time permits, we take a few requests from 8:30 to 8:45. Visitors are always welcome. Our regular dancers love to watch the more advanced dances. If visiting from out of town, we'll play requests if you tell us ahead of time.
Our partner dance repertoire is small and still growing. Women are encouraged (but not required) to learn both parts. The etiquette in our group is partner switching/partner rotation.
Open to the community. For security purposes, we ask that people joining for the first time contact the CBS office at (630) 961-1818, and ask for Dorothy, to let us know you are coming, and to make sure that we are meeting on that date.
