Blues Hugs from the Heart

This Saturday, September 13 is "Defy Superstition Day." Many people have a list of superstitions. The number 13 tops the list, then, gawd forbid, Friday the 13th. Some are wary of black cats (not to mention black cat bones) or walking under a ladder, or stepping on a sidewalk crack, and the list goes on. Many hotels don't have a 13th floor or a room #13. However, I have heard about a place in Baltimore called the 13th Floor that defies the superstition notion with incredible views, food, drink, music (including blues) and a cool atmosphere. Go ahead and try and use September 13th as a celebration to rid yourself of superstitions that have been haunting you.

Before I wrap this week, I'd like to ask you to please bow your head in silence for a few moments today to honor those we lost on September 11, 2001. Blues hugs from the heart are definitely in order.

Birthdays of note: Sept 11 Barbeque Bob (1902); Sept 12 Alger "Texas" Alexander (1900), Gus Cannon (1885); Sept 13 Charles Brown (1922); Sept 15 Silas Hogan (1911), Snooky Pryor (1921); Sept 16 B.B. King (1925), Little Willie Littlefield (1931), Billy Boy Arnold (1935)

There’s a message in the music, listen!
(Niagara Falls, NY) - You’ve got to give it to Toby Rotella; he’s “The Man” behind what has rapidly become one of the biggest, most highly respected, successful blues festivals on the East Coast, and he did it right here in beautiful, scenic and increasingly vibrant Niagara Falls, USA. [the Niagara Falls Blues Festival is Sept 11-14, 2014]

No new kid on the block, Toby’s been around the barn more than a few times.
Once the proud proprietor of the famed Imperial Garage, which he practically built by himself from the ruins of an old, 1920s-era car dealership, he nearly singlehandedly converted the Third Street venue into the most popular blues house in Western New York and Ontario during the not-so roaring 1980s.
