Hoping everyone has had a relaxing holiday season, but it's time to get back to work! Just a few industry news items since our last newsletter we wanted to make sure you hadn't missed!
We're hearing reports that industry veteran Jason Flom is taking his label, Lava Records, back to Warner Music Group as a result of of Universal Music Group passing on a 'buy-sell' option for Flom's half of Lava. A&R Worldwide has announced the promotion of Tyler Polzin to Sr. Director, A&R Worldwide and Emmanual Legrand has begun his new role as US Editor for UK music publication Music Week. Peter Lloyd is the new Creative Director of Music Publishing at Disney Music Group. Puma has named Rihanna as their Creative Director and Brand Ambassador. ASCAP CEO John LoFrumento has retired after thirty-three years. Nine North/Turnpike Music has promoted Jeff Davis to VP, Promotion & Marketing. Tom Moran has been named VP of Promotion at I.R.S. Nashville Records. Mike Tunnicliffe is the new EVP of Business Developments and Partnerships at Universal Music Group. Kathy Baker has been promoted to SVP/Digital Marketing for Columbia Records. Jordan Howard has been appointed Creative Manager at CCS Rights Management in Toronto and Debra Herman, former SVP, Label Relations at Artist Arena/WMG, is now rocking out Music Partnerships for Shazam in New York. Lee L'Heureux was promoted to SVP/Rhythm, Urban & Hip Hop Promotion & Strategy at Warner Bros. Records and Shawn Barron has been promoted to VP, Urban A&R at Atlantic Records. BMG Chrysalis US announced that it had acquired LA-based indie rock label Vagrant Records as part of their strategy to build its North American new recordings business. Vagrant Co-Founder Jon Cohen will become EVP Recorded Music at BMG Chrysalis US and will be responsible for Vagrant as well as for records released in the US though BMG's Artist Services model. Havas Group and Universal Music Group have announced the formation of the Global Music Data Alliance and Warner Music Group has entered a strategic partnership with interactive media company Interlude to become a founding major label partner for Interlude Music. Pulse Music Publishing announced the promotion of Tavi Shabestari to the position of Senior Director, A&R. Republic Records announced the appointment of Kevin Lipson as SVP/Commerce and Maureen Kenny has joined Atlantic Records as SVP of A&R and will be based at the label's Burbank office. Kenny previously served as VP of A&R at Republic Records. Jimmy Iovine, former Chairman at Interscope, has been appointed to the Board of Directors at Live Nation. We wanted to make sure you were aware of the upcoming Caribbean Music Summit, the sister event to the SyncSummit series, taking place at the Hilton Barbados, February 1-3, 2015. This inaugural event is going to cover issues including endorsements, licensing, sync, branding, social media, distribution, touring, financing, and management. SyncSummit's other confirmed events are scheduled in London, April 9-10, New York, June 17-18 and Los Angeles, September 18-19.
