Mississippi Heat :: WARNING SHOT
Warning Shot (Delmark Records) features sixteen songs (14 originals) from one of Chicago's most creative and original bands. Led by harp-master Pierre Lacocque, who contributed ten of the tunes here, Warning Shot, takes you from vintage Chicago and Delta blues to exciting jungle and Latin beats, swing-boogies, R&B ballads, and a Calypso tinged rhumba.

When you listen to this superb CD, you're not just hearing a band. You're hearing a family, one with a deep love, understanding, and respect for each other. That special guest Sax Gordon is so seamlessly incorporated into their signature sound speaks volumes. Read more details here...

Low Society :: YOU CAN'T KEEP A GOOD WOMAN DOWN
Low Society, led by Mandy Lemons, is blazing new trails on the stomping grounds of blues and Americana music. Texas Blues, Memphis Rock 'N Soul and a healthy dose of New York attitude help define the sound and spirit of their latest album, You Can't Keep A Good Woman Down, on Icehouse Records. It's a diverse collection of original songs that inject new life into, while remaining firmly rooted in, the traditional music that they live and breathe. Among the albums guest appearances are two of Memphis' best known musicians, B.B. King and Lionel Hampton alumni Dr Herman Green on the saxophone and Lucero's Rick Steff on keys and accordion. The album was recorded at the historic Memphis landmark, American Recording Studio, and mastered by Stax legend, Larry Nix. Read more details here...

Willette Romious will be missed!
ALLIGATOR, MS - Valentine's Day, the blues world and Mississippi lost a great friend and tireless worker when Willette Romious passed away unexpectedly. Born a few miles south of Clarksdale in Alligator, Mississippi, Willette was introduced to blues at an early age in front of her parents' grocery store when her father frequently hired blues musicians to play outside his store. In recent years, she had helped the town of Alligator gain a Blues Trail Marker to commemorate its place in Mississippi blues history.

Willette became a friend of the Blues Festival Guide several years ago, helping to distribute magazines, working with BFG staff at their tables at International Blues Competition and Blues Music Awards, and generally spreading the word about blues musicians and events in Mississippi.

Blues Brother
With hard work and heart, a UI law alumnus builds a musical legacy that honors and preserves an American treasure.

Every note, every slide of the steel guitar, every mournful blow into the harmonica tells a story—not necessarily a sad one, but always a truth born from the highs and lows of living.

Inside the blues tent at a New Orleans music festival more than 20 years ago, Jay Sieleman stood bobbing his head to one of those truths when he noticed two guys in front of him wearing shirts that read Ultimate Rhythm and Blues Cruise.

Intrigued, Sieleman paused his groove to ask, "What's this blues cruise?" ... Read the entire story here

Feb 28-Mar 1 Radio Show:  JORMA KAUKONEN
Jorma Kaukonen started out finger picking in the nineteen sixties folk revival. Then he headed to San Francisco to help start psychedelic music with the quintessential acid rock band, Jefferson Airplane. Then he moved on to Hot Tuna, which played everything from roots rock to heavy metal to reggae to straight ahead blues. And now he has come full circle… a master acoustic musician.

New music from the magnificent Jorma Kaukonen. This week, in the Bluesmobile.
