Gator By the Bay Festival is Looking Blue
SAN DIEGO, CA - Blues lovers won’t be feeling blue at all when they peruse the Gator By the Bay schedule for 2015. The festival, which brings the joie de vivre of the Louisiana bayou to Spanish Landing Park in San Diego on Mother’s Day weekend, May 7-10, not only features the hottest Cajun & zydeco music, but also three days of one of the strongest blues lineups around.

18th Annual Freedom Creek Blues Festival Kickstarter campaign
ALICEVILLE, AL - The Rural Members Association is proud to announce the 18th Annual Freedom Creek Blues Festival founded by the late, great Willie King. This year’s festival is to be held 11:30am until 8pm near downtown Aliceville, Alabama at "Cookieman's" place at 1438 Wilder Circle, rain or shine!

Stax Museum, B.B. King among Recipients of 2015 Tennessee Governor's Arts Awards
NASHVILLE, TN - The Stax Museum of American Soul Music and blues great B.B. King were among recipients of the 2015 Governor's Arts Awards. The awards, which recognize individuals and institutions who represent the best of arts and culture in Tennessee, were presented during a ceremony March 17 in Nashville.
 
King received a Distinguished Artist Award and "continues to reign as the unchallenged 'King of the Blues,’” said the Tennessee Arts Commission. This award it presented to Tennessee artists of exceptional tale nt and creativity in any discipline who have contributed to the arts and influenced directions, trends and aesthetic practices on a state and national level.

Roadside oddities: Dockery Farms & the birth of the blues
CLEVELAND, MS - B.B. King said it all started at Dockery Farms – the blues, that is. And he would probably know, being one of the most revered blues musicians of all time.

The blues is quite possibly America’s most distinctive musical style and many of its most iconic practitioners worked and lived in and around this cotton plantation, including Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf and Son House. Their music has been immensely influential on popular culture, particularly on rock n’ roll, with legends like Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones and, most recently, the White Stripes, covering their songs.

MEMPHIS, TN - Jay Sieleman is stepping down as head of The Blues Foundation September 30, 2015 after more than twelve years at the helm. The search for a new President and CEO of The Blues Foundation is now underway.
 
The Board of Directors will select a successor this summer. Applications are due May 15, but you are encouraged to make your interest known early.

Washington Blues Society Announces 2015 Best of the Blues Awards
KIRKLAND,WA - The Washington Blues Society ’s annual Best of the Blues Awards (“BB Awards”) returns to the Kirkland Performance Center on Sunday, April 12th to honor musicians and artists nominated by blues society members in 31 award categories. The 2015 BB Awards features performances by over 45 select nominees and recognize new inductees into the Washington Blues Society Hall of Fame.
 
The nominees once again represent the very best blues performers from throughout the Pacific Northwest. Long-time favorites Brian Lee and the Orbiters lead nominations with members receiving seven categories such as Mark Dufresne Male Vocalist, Slide Blues Guitarist, Chris Leighton Blues Drummer, Act, Performer, and Songwriter. Fresh from their 2015 International Blues Challenge performances in Memphis, the Rafael Tranquilino Band, the CD Woodbury Band and Nick Vigarino are also on this year’s ballot...
