Private-NonProfit-Individual Partnership Contributes to HART Fund
JACKSON, MS - Soul Blues singer Dorothy Moore organized a challenge match to raise money for the HART Fund of the Blues Foundation. The Central MS Blues Society hosted the month-long challenge match at its weekly Blue Monday jam in November and December at Hal & Mal's in Jackson, Mississippi. In addition to Ms. Moore and the Central MS Blues Society, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans participated in the fund drive.

The HART Fund exists to help blues musicians in times of medical need, and on the final night of the fund drive, blues drummer Rick Lewis gave heartfelt testimony to the role the HART Fund played in his life during a recent medical situation. ...More about this worthy endeavor
Maple Blues Awards Blues Booster Of The Year - Larry Kurtz‏
TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA - The Toronto Blues Society is proud to announce the recipient of the Blues Booster of the Year Award, a very special Maple Blues Award honoring outstanding contribution to the Canadian blues music industry. This year the Blues Booster of the Year Award goes to Orangeville, Ontario’s Larry Kurtz, the founder and artistic director of the popular Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival.

Voted one of the Top 100 Festival and Events in Ontario several years in a row, the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival is held annually in the picturesque town of Orangeville in south-central Ontario. Since its modest beginnings in 2003, the festival has grown exponentially and boasts an impressive line-up of local and nationally recognized musicians... More here about the recipient and festival
Saskatchewan Capital Beats Winter Blues with Mid-Winter Blues Festival Feb 22-27
REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA - Just when the February doldrums are setting in, things get jumping at the Regina Mid-Winter Blues Festival.

The festival takes place at venues across Saskatchewan's capital city from Feb. 22-27. There are free performances Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, as well as Saturday afternoon. Tickets will be needed for shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Greg Mildenberger, president of the Regina Blues Association, says they expect about 2,000 people will flow through the festival. "They are full houses right from start to finish, so it's a great weekend and a great week," said Mildenberger.
The festival started more than two decades ago as a weekend event held in pubs, but Mildenberger says it has grown quite a bit over the last decade.

Dudley Taft :: SKIN AND BONES
American Blues Music Group recording artist Dudley Taft brings his own version of the blues to the table with Skin And Bones, a hair-raising collection of blues, rock and a slice of grunge pie. Recorded at Muchmore studio in his home in Cincinnati and Omni Sound in Nashville, he and bassist John Kessler co-produced the record.

Skin And Bones came from three sessions with Jason Patterson on drums and John Kessler on bass at Taft’s home studio once owned by legendary rock icon Peter Frampton in Cincinnati, Ohio. Yes, that guy. Taft bought the house with the intent of utilizing the studio full time. He didn’t know the support phone number when setting up the room would lead him to Frampton himself.

Sorry about last week, but tornadoes that came through Mississippi were a little too close for comfort…but all is well in the end.

The last time I posted here, I mentioned the National Women In Blues Showcase. Well, the word is out. The Showcase has been moved to Beale Street. This is great news. The past location, the Center For Southern Folklore was wonderful, but it’s location caused some issues … and Alfred’s stage is much larger and the seating more available.

Buddy & Hopkins’ Archive Farewell Tour Ends
Farewell & thanks to Buddy & Hopkins!! Here's a note from their creator:
"Buddy and Hopkins first appeared in 2003 in the Connecticut Blues Society newsletter. For the first comic strip, it was called "The Blue Smoke Band" which was a band name a friend and I came up with while in high school. While our band never got off the ground, it did provide some material for Buddy and Hopkins and I realized my talent was with a pencil and not with a bass guitar. Buddy and Hopkins was produced weekly for over six years. It's been published in numerous magazines and society newsletters and can still be found in music publications and on entertainment websites around the world! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the archives..."
