Diana Rein :: LONG ROAD
Get ready to meet your fate when you hear "The Six-String Siren" guitarist Diana Rein’s highly-anticipated sophomore album, Long Road. Written, recorded and produced by Diana Rein, the disc features twelve original tracks on which Rein sings, plays lead, bass, and rhythm guitar. Long Road was mixed and mastered by Peter Duff at Grey Brick Studios in San Diego, CA.

In mythology, Sirens were dangerous yet beautiful creatures that would lure sailors with enchanting songs and make them crash onto the rocky coast. It is said that some crews survived by inserting wax in their ears to keep from being compelled. But what if the music was turned up? What if it was amplified? What if there were soaring guitar tones that shook your bones and cut through to your soul? You'd be helpless.

On Long Road, Diana Rein displays a sharp tongue, driving blues-based guitar, and melodic solos. ...More details about this release here

In Layman Terms :: TANGLED
Cole and Logan Layman have grown up making music together. They are both multi-instrumentalists and write original music. They are young, passionate, and all about the blues. Their unique and diverse sound ranges from gritty, foot-stomping acoustic work, to an electrified big-band sound. They perform nationally as a duo, as a trio with their mother on drums and washboard, or as a full band which includes keys, a horn section, and a professional drummer who happens to be their producer and mentor. No matter how they present their music, the core is rooted in the blues, and it is the undeniable connection these siblings have that shines through and makes them special.

“In Layman Terms delivers on the promise of greatness with their first full-length album, Tangled. Logan Layman’s vocals are deep and amazing with the assuredness of a mature chanteuse while Cole Layman’s guitar work is precise and electrifying..."  ...More details about this release here

Arkansas, Memphis and Tennessee unite for 5th Annual Bridging the Blues event
(MS, TN, AR) - Bridging the Blues is a way to connect live music and related events in three areas that have a Mississippi River bridge in common, but it also refers to different types of music that are bridged by the blues, and these include almost every genre of popular music.

The idea originated from wanting to give visitors in our tri-state region a way to find live music in between two main weekend festivals: the Mighty Mississippi Music Festival in Greenville, Mississippi, on September 30-October 2, and the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas, on October 5-8.

And when you’re talking about music, you certainly can’t leave out Memphis, so the idea was born to include these regions to plan and promote smaller venues as well as these festivals. This multi-week collaboration includes everything from exhibits, conferences, street festivals and intimate club performances. ...Read full story and see photos here
Tradition continues as Victor Wainwright closes the Daytona Blues Festival, Sunday, October 9
(Daytona Beach, FL) The final day of the 7th annual Daytona Blues Festival kicks off at 1:00 pm and concludes with local legend (who we share with Savanah and Memphis) Victor Wainwright and the WildRoots. Entertaining the crowd before Victor, fresh off 4 2016 BMA nominations, is the Sugaray Rayford Band. Also playing Sunday are guitarist extraordinaire Tinsley Ellis, IBC band runner-up The Paul Deslauriers Band, and IBC solo/duo champs Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons. Everything must come to an end, and the end of the 2016 Daytona Blues Festival will be one to remember.

Victor Wainwright needs no introduction to blues fans. Yet many may not know of his connections to the Daytona Beach area. Victor studied air traffic control at Daytona Beach’s Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. While at ERAU, Victor played local clubs, solo and accompanying other local artists.

(Memphis, TN) - This Friday [Sept 16] marks what would have been B.B. King’s 91st birthday. The Delta blues icon, Memphis music legend, and guitar great died in 2015. A pair of events will commemorate King’s life and the unveiling of several art pieces dedicated to his memory.

At 10:30 a.m. outside the Gibson guitar factory, the Gibson Foundation’s GuitarTown project and the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau will reveal the first in a series of sculptures of “Lucille,” King’s famed Gibson guitar. ...Find more details here

Memphis Music Hall of Fame announces 2016 inductees
 (Memphis, TN) - Stax Records star William Bell, garage rock legend Domingo "Sam the Sham" Samudio, iconic R&B house band the Hi Rhythm Section, and jazz saxophone great Charles Lloyd are among the latest inductees to the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. Opera star Marguerite Piazza and Delta-born bluesman John Lee Hooker round out the 2016 class, which was announced during an event at Overton Square's Lafayette's Music Room on Sept 9.

The 2016 inductees will be enshrined officially during ceremonies to be held Nov. 3 at The Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets will go on sale Oct. 1 through Ticketmaster.

The six-member class will join 54 previous inductees — including B.B. King, Elvis Presley, Otis Redding and Justin Timberlake — bringing the total number of members to 60 for the Rock 'n' Soul Museum-affiliated Memphis Music Hall of Fame. ...Read full story, bios and see photos here
Photographer Bill Steber captures fading legends on Blues Highway
(Nashville Ledger) - Bill Steber stood at the crossroads in the Mississippi Delta and made a deal with the devil that would allow him to not only master his photographic skills but become one of the most respected documentarians of Mississippi Delta blues. And kind of make a living (or at least fashion his life) while he’s at it.

When he made this deal, Bill knew time was running out to capture on his camera the West Africa-inspired blues culture of the Delta.

“I was racing against time to photograph these places (generally disintegrating juke joints and shotgun sharecroppers’ shacks) and these people before they all were gone,” says Bill, 50 (“almost 51,” he insists).
The longtime Nashville-area journalist – born in Grinder’s Switch, home of the late Sarah Cannon’s “Minnie Pearl” character – has dedicated this most recent half of his life to making sure to capture the images of Delta blues men and women and their culture...

And you don’t need a turntable, or a CD machine, or an MP3 player. Just turn on the TV. In commercials or as theme songs, the blues is everywhere.
