Duke Robillard :: BLUES FULL CIRCLE
Blues Full Circle, from two-time Grammy nominee and multi Blues Music Award winning guitarist Duke Robillard was a 2017 Grammy Nominee for Traditional Blues Album. His last CD, The Acoustic Blues & Roots of Duke Robillard, won Acoustic Album of the Year honors at the 37th Blues Music Awards.

Produced by Robillard and recorded at Lakewest Recording and Duke’s Mood Room, Blues Full Circle showcases his killer guitar tones in a small combo setting, which brings out the power and urgency of the songs. Besides Duke (guitars, vocals) the “all-star combo” includes Bruce Bears (piano, Hammond organ); Brad Hallen (acoustic and electric bass); and Mark Teixeira (drums).

Special guests on this album include the legendary Jimmie Vaughan, who double-teams with Duke on the appropriately-titled guitar instrumental extravaganza, “Shufflin’ and Scufflin’.” Sugar Ray & the Bluetones lead singer Sugar Ray Norcia adds his trademark pleading vocals to the jumping “Last Night;” and the multi-talented Kelley Hunt sings and plays piano...

The Blues are back at RiverEdge Park June 16-17
(Aurora, IL) - Blues on the Fox, June 16-17, presents Jonny Lang, Mavis Staples and more in Aurora, Illinois. On Friday, June 16, the women are bringing the heat, Mavis Staples and Shemekia Copeland. On Saturday, June 17, the guys come out to play and include Jonny Lang, Elvin Bishop, Devon Allman and Guy King Band.

There was no way to know the ground-breaking impact musicians John Lee “Sonny Boy” Williamson, Tampa Red, Big Bill Broonzy and others would have when they sat down to record their incredible sound at the Leland Hotel in downtown Aurora in the 1930s. As soon as those guitar strings were plucked and their soulful voices filled the air, everything we knew about blues was changed forever, and Blues on the Fox celebrates that monumental piece of history. ...Find more about Blues on The Fox
27th W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival June 14-17
(Henderson, KY) - The Henderson Music Preservation Society announces the W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival will return for its 27th year June 14-17 in Audubon Mill Park along the Henderson riverfront.

The four-day, free music festival offers blues and Zydeco bands from across the U.S., a “street strut” showcasing attendees’ best Dixieland Jazz attire, kids’ activities, and a number of related events hosted by local businesses and organizations. This year’s headliner acts include Coco Montoya, Tab Benoit, Wet Willie and Samantha Fish. The event features nationally known acts that celebrate the life and legacy of former Henderson resident and ‘Father of the Blues’ W.C. Handy. This year’s lineup, according to Perkins, includes a number of bands appearing for the first time on the Handy stage, including Jason Ricci & the Bad Kind and the Dawn Tyler Watson Trio, as well as a number of fan favorites such as Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials and Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band, which are set for return performances. ...Find more about the W.C. 2017 KBA Recipient Briggs Farm Blues Festival Celebrates 20 Years July 6-9
(Nescopeck, PA) – The Briggs Farm Blues Festival celebrates 20 years on July 6-9. This year’s performers include Devon Allman, Eric Gales, Thornetta Davis, Joanna Conner, Slam Allen, Lonnie Shields, Vanessa Collier and Alex P. Suter and more.

Since 1998, Briggs Farm has hosted one of the nation's most revered blues festivals on its 250 year-old farm. Through the years they have grown in size, but have maintained a small festival feel. For their dedication to the Blues, they were awarded a 2017 Blues Foundation’s "Keeping the Blues Alive" Award. This honor is given to one festival each year, and they’re ecstatic that this year it went to Briggs! Their goal has always been to bring the best Blues music possible to their area. Keeping the music we love so much alive and thriving is easy to do with the support of passionate guests, and amazing musicians who come year after year!

The Blues, The Ocean, The Friendly Vibe, The Memories… Doheny Blues Fest delivers
By Michele Lundeen
(Dana Point, CA) – Whether soaking in the top-notch entertainment on the Back Porch Stage, the two main stages, or perusing the food court, the unique craft booths, stretching out on the sprawling lawns, watching the swaying palm trees, basking in the warm weather or reveling in the friendly blues camaraderie, there was something for everyone at the Doheny Blues Festival May 20-21 at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California. For several years now Doheny has delivered a variety of roots and blues together for the masses. This year was no exception. Along with blues and soul favorites like Bobby Rush, Janiva Magness, Mavis Staples, Canned Heat (who are celebrating their 50th Anniversary!), Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers, Monster Mike Welch & Mike Ledbetter, Samantha Fish, John Primer and Bob Corritore, Moreland & Arbuckle and JJ Grey & Mofro, there was also the blues-based rock flashback of Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience, the trance of Robin Trower, a soul-inspired set by Melissa Etheridge, ...Read more n see photos from Doheny Blues Fest
Revisiting a Music Legacy …American Classics Recut at Sam Phillips’ Historic Memphis Studios
(Memphis, TN) - Red Hot: A Memphis Celebration of Sun Records is a jubilant, homegrown album honoring the legacy of the tiny independent label that changed the face of popular music.

All proceeds from the Americana Music Society release, due June 16, 2017, will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases

The collection is co-produced by singer-guitarist Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars, and Tamara Saviano, the Nashville-based writer-producer and author of Without Getting Killed or Caught: The Life and Music of Guy Clark. A cast of roots music notables celebrates the work of Sam Phillips, an inaugural Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee who founded his Sun label in 1952.

Red Hot was recorded at the two legendary Memphis recording studios operated by Phillips — the humble Sun Studio, opened in 1950 as Memphis Recording Service, and the futuristic Sam Phillips Recording Service...

Mississippi Blues Marathon needs sponsorships to make it to Year 11
By Rick Cleveland/Special to the Sun Herald
(Jackson, MS) - Jackson’s highly acclaimed Mississippi Blues Marathon, which annually draws thousands of participants from all 50 states and several foreign countries, has been running for 10 years.

There might not be an 11th, and that, for my money, would be a shame.

The race, which celebrates Mississippi, Jackson and blues music, is seeking a sponsor or sponsors. Without it, the event will not continue.

“We need corporate support; it’s that simple,” said John Noblin, one of the race’s co-founders and its director for the past decade.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi, which has been the event’s sponsor for all 10 years, has shifted its focus — and its sponsorship dollars — to a statewide “Get Ready to Run” youth running program.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day Delta Blues Museum to Participate in Blue Star Museums
(Clarksdale, MS) – From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the Delta Blues Museum will participate as a Blue Star Museum, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation's active duty military personnel and their families from
The program provides families an opportunity to enjoy the nation's cultural heritage and learn more about their community, especially after a military move. A list of participating museums is available here. Museum director Shelley Ritter says the program holds special meaning, stating, "Delta Blues Museum has participated in this important initiative from its inception in 2010.

Many blues musicians served our country and during their service shared their music with the world. We honor these musicians like Honeyboy Edwards, Josh 'Razorblade' Stewart and others in our gallery and are honored to give complimentary access to our active duty military personnel and their families this summer. We are grateful for their service."
