Eliza Neals :: 10,000 FEET BELOW
10,000 Feet Below is spelunking the new depths of the blues with Eliza Neals as your fearless guide. Caverns of sound well up through Eliza's supernatural voice and piano driven songs, as Howard Glazer's guitar pierces the echo with honest tone, breaking and entering an abandoned temple of blues-rock left long ago, descending each rung carefully to uplift your musical soul. Producer Eliza Neals rigged the journey, surveyed then mapped the suffocating walls, while finding soulful keys through narrow fissures of sound.

Eliza Neals unflinchingly dives headfirst to underwater eyelets that only a skilled writer can reach -- falling lower to get washed up on golden grotto beaches, a new entrance to blues once left undiscovered, 10,000 Feet Below.

Trinidaddio Blues Fest, 8-26-17, Fabulous Thunderbirds featuring Kim Wilson, John Primer, Alexis Suter!
(Trinidad, CO) - Returning to Central Park, the 2017 edition of Trinidaddio Blues Fest will host another world-class lineup. Headlining this year's show will be the Fabulous Thunderbirds. The T-Birds first appeared in the 1970s and despite numerous personnel changes over the years, they have maintained a top-shelf international profile and prolific musical output under the leadership of founder Kim Wilson. Not only did Kim establish himself early in his career as one of the top harmonica players in the world, but his playing. singing and writing have remained relevant and dynamic ever since, as evidenced by a steady stream of tours, collaborations, and recordings, and by his 2016 Blues Music Award as best harmonica instrumentalist.

Appearing just before the T-Birds will be two-time Grammy nominee and 2017 BMA nominee John Primer and The Real Deal Band, with special guest Ken Saydak. John was the guitar player in Muddy Waters' last band,

18th Annual Hayward/Russell City Blues Festival July 8-9 celebrates heritage
NOTE: The West Coast Blues Society and festival have a new website

(Hayward, CA) - The 18th Annual Hayward-Russell City Blues Festival celebrates its 18th year in Hayward, making this one of the oldest continuous Blues festivals in the West. The festival will he held July 8-9, 2017 from 11am-7pm at the Hayward City Hall Plaza (777 “B” Street, Hayward, California).

Some of the talented artists appearing over Saturday and Sunday are Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials, Grady Champion, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Little Jimmy Reed, Southern Soul Review featuring Johnny Rawls, Blues Boy Willie & Linwood Taylor, The Kimbrough Brothers, The Oakland Blues Divas and many, many more (lineup subject to change).

This little town of African-American's, who migrated here from the deep south, was one of the proving grounds for many blues musicians. Russell City, an unincorporated area of Hayward, California is about 12 minutes from the City of Oakland. This community of modest houses and small farms along the bay is now gone. During it's heyday, Russell City was a down home, known for its clubs with dirt floors, bootleg electricity and a steady stream of musicians playing a unique style of Delta Blues.

Survivor: The Benny Turner Story release & signing in Austin July 8
After more than 60 years performing gospel, R&B, soul and blues everywhere from the Chitlin Circuit to the Apollo Theatre to the far reaches of the globe, Benny Turner shares his captivating life story in his new biography, Survivor: The Benny Turner Story. Available in hardcover and eBook versions beginning July 8, 2017.

An oral history as told to Bill Dahl, Benny talks about his early years in Gilmer, TX, the family’s move to Chicago in 1950 and the ultimate birth of his career in the gospel, R&B and blues genres. Surviving extreme poverty in rural East Texas followed by the shocking transition to urban life in Chicago and the untimely death of his big brother, bandmate and best friend Freddie King, is only a portion of the obstacles Benny has survived.
Bill Dahl writes in his introduction to the book, “What you’re reading is Benny Turner’s story the way he wants it told.”

Long Beach Bayou Fest was another winner!
(Long Beach, CA) - This festival is always a pleasure never a chore to get around and the 31st annual was no exception. I was only able to make it on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed myself dancing to zydeco, soul, funk, blues! The Mardi Gras parade is fun as it’s headed up by a traditional brass band and very colorful members of the La La Club who are entertainment in themselves! A traditional parade followed by traditional shenanigans!

One of the highlights for me was seeing the Grammy-winning Pine Leaf Boys for the first time in person. Wow! They were not only super talented but really fun to watch! All the acts were so entertaining but other new act standouts for me were T Broussard & Zydeco High Steppers and MJ’s Brass Boppers from my hometown of Oakland. It is hard to see it all between also perusing the cool craft vendors and tempting food. I specifically came out for one of my faves, headliner Café R&B who always kill! More wow’s!
