We were all anxious to hear the King Brothers Band (pictured Lt-Rt: Lee and Sam King) at the New Blues Festival Sept 3 in Long Beach, California but Mother Nature had different plans for the outdoor event, unfortunately, and a major downpour happened instead.

Delta Moon :: CABBAGETOWN
Cabbagetown is the latest project from Atlanta-based blues and roots rock quartet, Delta Moon. It’s the band’s 8th studio album and the follow-up to the award-winning 2015 release, Low Down, named one of the best blues records of the year by both Downbeat and Blues Music Magazine.

Cabbagetown consists of 9 original compositions and 1 cover of Son House’s timeless classic, “Death Letter Blues.”

After a long and successful European tour in the Spring of 2016, the band reconvened in Marlon Patton’s studio in Tucker, Georgia, to strike while still red hot from playing 6 nights a week. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, in a rural setting surrounded by great gear, pets, woods, food and ale.

Award-winning songwriter Tom Gray had several new Delta Moon classics ready to go – “Rock And Roll; Girl,” “The Day Before Tomorrow,” “Just Lucky I Guess,” and “Coolest Fools.” Full-band renditions quickly followed with a few twists  ...Find more about this CD and the artist

Lightnin' Willie :: NOT BLACK, NOT WHITE, JUST BLUES
Bluesman Lightnin’ Willie has a distinctive approach to his music. The sound is an irresistible blend of tradition and spontaneous creativity, with a deliciously insidious emphasis on the groove. It is a compelling, hard swinging brand of blues that, whenever he performs, packs the floor—his audience can’t not dance. A guitarist of impressive facility, a vocalist of coolly stylish authority and a composer of persuasive original blues that both extend and enhance the idiom, Willie’s music has a rare individualistic quality. It is at once airy and full of open space yet also loaded with earthy, intense emotion, and as featured on his new Pete Anderson produced album, No Black No White, Just Blues, it showcases a master at the top of his game.

Lightnin’ Willie has gone from low down beer joints to become staple on the international festival circuit, with plenty of wild stops along the way...

5th Annual Mighty Mississippi Music Festival returns to Greenville Sept 28 - Oct. 1
(Greenville, MS) - The fifth-annual Mighty Mississippi Music Festival returns to Greenville September 28 - Oct. 1. It all started on this fertile, flat delta land. From these fields and the hands that nurtured them, emerged the style of music known as the blues. History tells us that these Delta blues have influenced almost every genre of music that exists today.

Featured this year are St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Turnpike Troubadours, Shovels & Rope, Chris Knight, Casey James (Season 9, American Idol), Mississippi-based national blues sensation Jarekus Singleton and many more. The Highway 61 Blues Stage will host a world-class list of Delta blues staples including Toronzo Cannon and Cedric Burnside Project.

A new program will kick off the Festival on Thursday evening: The First Annual Mighty Mississippi Music Festival Singer-Songwriters Competition.

International Conference on the Blues Oct 1-3
(Cleveland, MS) - Registration is open for the 4th annual International Conference on the Blues, which will take place on Oct. 1–3 in Cleveland, largely on the grounds of the Grammy Museum Mississippi. The featured artist is New Orleans soul/R&B vocal legend Aaron Neville, who will perform on the 3rd, and the conference will also celebrate the centennial of blues icon John Lee Hooker and the Delta fieldwork of folklorist Alan Lomax.

The conference is part of Delta State University’s International Delta Blues Project, a program run by the Delta Center For Cultural and Learning that also offers a blues studies minor and graduate certificate as projects intended to boost the region’s cultural economy.

"The mission of the Delta Center is to promote greater understanding of the Mississippi Delta's culture and history,” the Center’s director, Rolando Herts, said. “The blues was born here, and educating residents and visitors about the global significance of blues music and culture is very much a part of fulfilling Center's mission." 10th Deep Blues Festival brings heavy blues, Americana and rock 'n roll to the promised land
(Clarksdale, MS) - A decade in, Clarksdale's Deep Blues Festival boasts its biggest, baddest lineup yet with heavy sounds from half a dozen Southern states — including Louisiana, North Carolina and, of course, Mississippi. The promised land.

Hallelujah.

"These are acts that can rock any house, anywhere, any time, but to see them all together at such post-apocalyptic venues as the Shack Up Inn and New Roxy makes Deep Blues Fest an unbelievable music fan experience," said festival co-organizer Robin Colonas. "Every year is different. Every year is legendary. But this one is 10 years in the making, and it shows."

The event's 10th anniversary lineup is as stunning for its diversity as it is impressive for its names: The Seratones, Nikki Hill, Lee Bains III & the Gloryfires, Robert "Lil Poochie" Watson & Hezekiah Early, The Yawpers, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, Dex Romweber, Leo “Bud” Welch, RL Boyce, Jimbo Mathus, Kenny Brown, Mark Holder & MPH, Chicken Snake and more. ...Find more about the Deep Blues Festival

Since 1993, Elwood has showcased Blues and Blues-based music such as R&B, Soul, and Rock & Roll with featured guests ranging from B.B. King and Eric Clapton to Jack White and Sharon Jones. In February 2012, the program was re-branded as Elwood’s BluesMobile, with all programming remaining unchanged. In July 2017, the program was terminated and is no longer on the air.
