Can we fill a table of ten with folks from Alki UCC? We have before, but often too late to get the early bird discount rate. UCC Global Ministries Efforts
Toward Peace for Korea
From Ed Evans, UCC Global Ministries Committee

As tensions continue to rise on the Korean Peninsula, our global ministries partners with the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea (PROK) are asking for continued prayers for peace and that we stand in solidarity with them as they live through this emotional time of intense concern.

The Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Church of Christ and the Northwest Region of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ has had a long relationship and partnership with the churches of the Seoul East Presbytery of the PROK since 1993. We have a history of worshiping together, praying together and being in fellowship together. The PROK along with the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) feel the most effective method toward achieving lasting peace on the Peninsula is to replace the Korean Armistice that ended active hostilities more than 70 years ago, with a lasting Peace Treaty. To that end, the PROK and the NCCK are seeking support for their international campaign for a Korea Peace Treaty.

They are encouraging people across the world to sign their online petition at www.KoreaPeaceTreaty.com

This Sunday, October 8,
10:00 am
It’s been another painful week in our country. Come to worship. Be together. Hug somebody.

We have the candlelight vigil on Saturday night, so we won’t repeat that focus on Sunday morning, but many of us are feeling quite tender right now.

The more we can be together, breathe together, sing and pray together, the stronger we’ll all be for the challenges before us.

* Sunday School
Hello,

Last week our school lesson was David the Musician from 1 Samuel 16:7. We learned how anyone can be affected by evil but music can soothe and heal, possibly even help you find your way back to God.

What a powerful message! How many of those ways can God provide to me if i find myself on the wrong path? What a profound thought!

We also spent a considerable time talking about God in our lives, how to talk to Him, what makes us grateful and what doesn't. It was a lesson on how to look at the world while holding God's hand and finding the positive, choosing to see the positive while still acknowledging the negative. A lot to chew on!!

This Sunday Julia Peeler will be teaching one of the best known stories of the bible, David and Goliath. I can't wait to see how it comes alive in her extremely capable hands! Until then, Peace, love, joy

and in God's name we pray for peace,
— Candi Terao
